Your tastes are constantly CONSTANTLY changing regardless of age. I've been watching anime and reading manga for over 30 years now and I wouldn't have that level of continual appreciation (i.e. fun) if I just stuck to what I liked when I was 4 or 17 or 25.
It's a good statement and one worth mulling..

That's OK, I understand where he come's from. This happened to all of us.
I know and heard of people that became anime fan recently and deeply regretted (and apologized) for insulting & bullying anime in the past (both the medium & fanbase community) for thinking it's dumb and not appealing and will never catch on. I've also heard of people that used to bully another person specifically nerds for being part of a fandom when that same bully turned out to be part of that fandom too, or just recently joined a fandom. I mean that's what part of fitting in with the mainstream crowd (particularly the 90's and early to late 2000's) was like back before nerd and fandom became cool (I think around mid 2010's).
We all have some sort of regrets, and that's how taste and cultural shifts/changes worked, that's part of aging. So to Hideaki Anno: You're not alone.

I understand where he's coming from. I really do.
But I also don't think my feelings for the last Evangelion movie would ever change.

I mean, I get it, but at the same time some people just don't like certain things. I don't watch Ultraman but I do watch Kamen Rider and I don't think it's unfair to say modern Kamen Rider is fairly different than the old Showa era stuff. If older fans don't like the modern stuff for being too different or focusing too much on toys I can understand it. I enjoy modern Rider myself and honestly even prefer it in a lot of cases, but I doubt we'll see anything like some of those series ever again just due to tighter television standards and other outside factors and changing tastes that make it so newer stuff can't really compete with older stuff when it comes to certain kind of content.. I don't think growing up and still not liking something is some kind of closemindedness though. I mean, if I hate a show as a kid, grow up and re-watch it and still hate it, well, oh well..

He's right. I see so many people be obsessed with a certain anime they watched as a kid that they wouldn't give the source manga a chance, especially when you explain to them what the anime changed that deviates from the creators vision and thus becomes a different story/characters. Especially when the creator makes a movie that is a sequel specifically to the events in the source manga. Those same people claim they are a fan but refuse to educate themself on the series they love.
