Needs more powered-exoskeleton-type stuff to be considered gundamish.

Or at least a blue, red and white color scheme.
Nothing about the suit really says 'Gundam' to me.

As long as they keep saying they are working toward the final realization of an actual Gundam, I think people will continue to be excited about it...

I think they confused Gundam with Jin Roh.

I'm not sure what is so special since the US army already uses stuff like this (GRAW is based on this type of soldier). Wouldn't gundam be more like a new bipedal type vehicle?

So I could tape a flashlight to a bicycle helmet, wear kneepads, camo and a bulletproof vest and that'll make me a Gundam?

It is interesting seeing how advanced the Japanese are getting (yes they are way more advanced than America in general). It is sad though that Japan is clearly planning invading or something of that sort. South Korea is more concerned about Japan than North Korea.

Reminds me of when NASA named a space shuttle "Enterprise" in honor of "Star Trek".

If they play their PR right it might work, but anyone who actually reads the articles and isn't really dim (and knows WHAT a gundam is) would know these are nothing alike, and apart from the ideas of miniaturizing computer systems, the research would probably never benefit an actual Gundam project.
Then again, if you really think about it, we'd never really be able to prove we had a real Gundam unless we could show it could fight in space, and last time I checked we had trouble securing enough funds just to get five people and/or maybe a few tons of cargo up their at best. So getting a possible bipedal weapon of mass destruction up there might be a little hard for a while. :p

Japanophiles would go crazy at this notion. but the Japanese dont have nearly enough people in the JSDF for any kind of invasion.
