I've never heard this before. What's your source?

I'm pretty sure you linked the wrong Takeuchi when talking about the designs.

So is this a one-off or a series? Or an intro to a maybe series? A for-sure series?

FSF is responsible for, like, 50% of my continued interest in Fate (the other half is Case Files, which is much better than its anime adaptation).
It feels like Narita challenged himself to reference absolutely every deep Type-Moon lore thing in existence, from un-fired Chekhov's guns to characters who only exist in long out-of-print companion books, but he never dwells on any of them long enough for it to get annoying.
The weird twists and revelations just keep coming too. Which counts for a lot because every good Type-Moon thing is at least half a mystery story. I can't wait to see what people make of them when the anime comes out, although I also wish English readers could get access to the novels at some point.
The relatively restrained designs are also a breath of fresh air compared to the frequently-busy extremely mixed bag of Fate/Grand Order.

Only a one-off intro is out, but they confirmed that a full series is coming. The light novels it's based on are up to volume 8, but the story is still ongoing.

The thing is that Chaos Dragon is based on a fanfic of GM who has rewritten their game sessions into a streamlined story to fit it with the upcoming mobage (that survived for a whole year) and that's why it turned out so badly.

Conceptually Rider is one of the most interesting servants. It has no real defined form but it's basically the Pale Rider: one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. It's master being sick is the catalyst that summoned it and it's the embodiment of death and disease.
