They could simply, gradually put the Macross sequels on a global streaming service to try to catch up with the late 25 years, target a large audience and build a new fanbase (I believe that's what Macross needs in the first place), yet they're thinking movie theaters would broadcast a live gig from a barely known band (understand me clearly, I love the Walküre and their songs) coming from a show that was never broadcasted outside Japan.
Another proof that Big West seems to be really, really, really badly advised since the worldwide agreement.

You would think with Sony pretty much holding all the cards in the relationship on all sides (owning distribution for both Macross and Robotech, dangling money in front of both companies), they would be better about advising Big West how to expand a project Sony Pictures executives have said could be their Star Wars if done correctly.

As someone who got introduced to the Macross universe through Delta, I love everything about it and it holds a special place in my heart, especially the music. I've listened to them during the happiest and also darkest years if my life so far. It's too unfortunate they're not known here in the States, I wish to have seen them live in person before their disband. At least I'll be able to enjoy them through the big screen.
They did a huge mistake by keeping this franchise region locked for decades, the fan base around the world would be a lot bigger. Now I feel it's a bit too little too late. New fans are only interested in overhyped new animes, no time to catch up to an old franchise.

only if it was that easy.
they are able to do this screening because walkure is a much more specific concern than 25 years worth of anime and associated rights.
in a perfect world you would be right, but your opinion doesn't acknowledge reality

More Macross is coming to the US whether this is popular or not and Big West probably knows the only people who are going to go see this are the super fans who have already seen Macross Delta fansubbed. Is Delta even that popular among hardcore American Macross fans? I mean I also wish they would put Macross on streaming but the success or failure of this screening isn't going to effect the broader Macross releases any because those are already set in stone.

The reality is, we're in 2023, no more in the 90's. Even the shittiest animes are simulcasted or streamed nearly everywhere.
Unless there's still a legal problem with Macross sequels (and every insiders are telling that no), Big West has no excuse. They live (or seem to be living, if you prefer) outside the reality of modern market, not me.
Of course, if they don't want to make Macross greater again in the world (I don't know in the US, but there was a time it was much more popular than Gundam in Europe), then so be.

Are they ? I mean, there's still no real news since the first announcements, and it was something like 10 months ago. Where are AnimEigo and Anime Limited ? Right Stuf may be the worse, since it was absorbed afterwards by Sony - Crunchyroll. If I was Big West, I'll purposely avoid to work with a company which collaborates with Harmony Gold and co-owns Robotech.
I guess the upcoming AX will be decisive. I live in France so I gave up on local releases, but I do hope that the US ones come true, to import them.
But again, those video releases are for fans only. It won't target a large audience and create a new fanbase, which is what Macross needs in the first place.
And concerning Delta, I like it, but I believe it's a niche within a niche.
