No award show will ever be perfect, but I agree with Chris that letting the public vote for the winners is preferable to letting a few judges decide. If public voting is flawed, at least it's flawed in a democratic way; on the other hand, the decision of a small group of people is likely to biased due to individual preferences and how that affects their perceptions and experiences (or lack thereof) regarding the content they're judging.
