So the first part is going to be 1 hour. Not sure how long the second part is going to be, but I hope the second special is closer to 1 hour and 30 minutes, cause I'm not 100% sure if 2 hours is enough. There are only 9 chapters left so 2 hours might actually be enough but these specials will need to have a faster pace than the 2nd part of the final season did as that typically adapted 1 chapter per episode. I'm sure that a lot of the final chapters being action should help with the pacing. Nevertheless, I'm pretty excited to see the anime conclude, and I hope they adapt the expanded ending from the volume releases and not the shorter ending from the monthly releases.

So the first part will be in hour special while we wait for the second part later this year I hope they don’t think about airing it late this year like this October or December, Here’s hoping they’ll air The second half at least this July just saying 3 or 4 extra months is like Plenty of time for them to get ready

So, a two-part movie. Makes sense considering the weird airing date. I hope Hayashi and his team get their well-deserved break after this is over. Dealing with AoT fans must've been hell.

AoT usually adapts 1,5 chapters per episode on average. Sometimes even 2 chapters per eps like in S3P2. Almost every episode in that part adapts 2 chapters per eps. For S4P2, imo, it makes sense to adapt 1 chapter per episode considering how dialogue-heavy some of the chapters are. I think they didn't want to run into the problem that S3P2 had by overloading the audience with too much info dump.

So, 9 chapters would equate to 6-7 episodes. You cut out the recap and OP/ED and there you have it. I think 2 hours is more than enough.

Kind of surprised that they didn't make this a big theatrical finale, all things considered. Maybe it will be like those DC movies that adapt famous comics, where they animate them in two parts and then eventually release them as a big two-and-a-half-hour movie. They did that with The Dark Knight Returns.

I don't see the point in airing the first half now and making fans wait (likely after a killer cliffhanger) several more months for the rest. We've already waited 3.5 years between S1 and S2, a year between S2 and S3.1, another 6 mo for S3.2, a year and a half between S3.2 and S4.1, and 9 mo between S4.1 and S4.2. It's been a year since S4.2 ended. What's another 6 mo wait to not have to wait again between S4.3 and S4.4? Just air them both in July or whenever.

At any rate, I'm glad they didn't make it a theatrical release or we'd have to wait at least another year or two to see it, unless you live in Japan, or near a big city where it might be playing outside of Japan.

This is very much in line with the original announcement on January 17th, which said there was going to be a "special broadcast" at midnight on March 3rd followed by the rest later this year. This announcement is just a confirmation of what they'd mentioned earlier, with the added information that the special was going to be one hour and the time it will be shown (12:25 am). Most of the announcement from yesterday was to give the details of the "special omnibus" showing of all the episodes in the week leading up to the new broadcast. Note: Never was it mentioned there was a "theatrical broadcast" or a lot of episodes. All of that was purely speculation by "fans".

I want to believe that the second special will be at least 2 hours long because I think they will need it. And for those that want threatical movies, you realize that doing it that way would have taken several more months for overseas fans to watch them?

There's an anime podcast I listen to hosted by anime onlies that have been doing weekly coverage of the final season.

A week or so ago they discussed the news that Attack on Titan was returning in March and committed to continuing their weekly coverage. I thought it was a bit funny that they were gearing up to podcast about a batch of episodes over several weeks when as far as I can tell it's just a single special with the final special airing later this year.

Laughing Indeed.

So we don't know when Part 2 will air this year but there is a reasonable chance that whenever it does, it will be relatively close to the 3rd year anniversary of when the, uh, "Final Season" first started running. Jesus. Talk about dragging it out.

Yeah, that would nice if the second part could be at least 2 hours for the finale.
