Excellent news, although the big names voicing the new characters at the very end of season 1 kind of gave it away.

Doesn’t really negate the news that they’re reversing their decision to renew Inside Job’s season 2 that had already started production. Netflix is not a safe place for original animation, unfortunately. |

Hell's Requiem ends with Vol 12 and that is where the already messy manga fully goes to shit. So I will tap out at the end of cour 1. Crimes & Punishment is the next arc and ends with Vol 18 but the rather slow-paced show would need to pick up the pace to get to the end of Vol 18 by ep 48. 7 3/4 volumes in 24 eps are about as good as a direct adaptation can ask for of course.
Insane that LIDEN FILMS made a page-by-page adaptation of Bastard, minus nudity and gore, with ok animation on top. Now why were all the other IPs I legit like put through the ringer? Has the Jump affiliation saved the anime? |

Best news of the year so far. Enjoyed season 1 a lot and it's just so cool seeing a pre-2000's manga animated nowadays!
Only wish I could support it. I've got little to spare and netflix as a service is uninteresting to me. |

Boy, had to see and confirm that... That's probably the second show on Netflix that I will truly be upset about cancelling from Netflix, but I wouldn't go as far to say that they are not a good place for original animations. I can say with confidence that they are at least better than AMC as they just cancelled their first and only animation last week  [/i]

Depends, when you say "other IPs" are you talking about other adaptations by Lidenfilms? Because the most general answer is that they simply take on way too many anime at once. |

Color me surprised because the 2nd batch of episodes didn't really chart like the 1st batch.
Then again the ancillary commercial markers like DVD and merch sales must have been strong enough Japan side to warrant the pickup. |

Personally, I am ecstatic to see that Bastard!! anime will finally go beyond The Dark Rebel Armies, as while that first story arc is a lot of debaucherous fun, the manga really started finding its groove afterwards. This will also mean that, after the first episode or two of Season 2, the anime will be moving into the 1990-1996 run in the Shonen Jump Seasonal Specials that the next two story arcs (Hell's Requiem and Crime & Punishment) were told in.
Glad to see that Bastard!! found some success over on Netflix, as it really was the only place I even thought would be plausible to actually air a new anime adaptation of it. |

It’s not negation, but it seems to be more emblematic of their animation strategy. More stuff based on existing properties and more anime, less stuff from scratch without an external sponsor like WB Animation was here. Say what you will about Inside Job and the other animated movies they’ve canned, there’s a distinct movement away from stuff like that in favor of more mass market friendly releases. |

I don't think this will come as a suprirse to anyone, with the first season ending with a "we'll be back" kind of message, but it's good having an official announcement! And it will air pretty soon too, I didn't expect it this year. Let's hope they will eventually adapt the whole manga. It has been a pretty entertaining ride so far, despite being a bit way too problematic for my taste. But still fun.

Never take those kinds of messages at face value, as they've been done for tons of anime that have never received future seasons, and sometimes they're even done knowing that there won't be any future anime productions. Maybe in Bastard!!'s case they knew that there would be more, but it's always best to take those kinds of messages are just fun little final words from the crew of the show itself. |
