This clip of episodes are mostly Empire-centered, as is the end of the third book and beginning of the fourth, which is what they’re adapting. I’ve been following along in the books to see how the show renders these events, and overall, it’s done a good job.
I was especially entertained by how Reinhard plays with Boltik, who, as you mentioned, is very expressive, but without seeming too over the top. I also enjoyed Oberstein’s dark wisdom about how heroes in history have had to sacrifice others at times.
But I miss Yang and the others, so I’m happy they’ll be getting back to them pretty soon.

that was one of the gripes of the ova though. some people though he came back way too soon since there were a lot more plot within the emprie after the kidnapping in the light novels (which i wont say since its considered spoilers for anime only viewers) that wasnt shown in the old ovas!
also from the way how slow this is going, we can more or less expect that reinhard's crowning as the next emperor of the empire wont happen until next season!
on the bright side, were at least going to see how hilda end up looking in a military uniform in this season

I’m glad my favorite character, Olivier Poplin, finally got some significant lines in this episode. We even got a peak at his and Schönkopf‘s sex lives. Apparently they’re peter-in-laws. He becomes a little more important a character later on, which I’ll enjoy.

but that will depend on how their pacing is & at this rate, i believe that it will be at least three more seasons (either S6 or S7 since their philosophy is to have one season cover one volume of the light novels) before walter's sex life is shown

So no dub for season 4? That seems strange to me.

One of the great things about LoGH is that it’s just as politically relevant today as it was when it was written in the 1980s. Watching these self-serving politicians make fodder of the young Emperor for expediency’s sake is reminiscent of a lot of modern political attitudes. It was great to get the perspectives of more average FPA citizens, too, the man on the street, as it were.
Yang is reaching the end of his patience with the Alliance, but Julian should take his reassignment as a chance to experience new things. It was nice to see Frederica calm Yang down a bit.

Yes, Yang and Eren Yeager would argue A LOT. (Kinda funny that Julian's VA is Kaji Yuuki, isn't it?)
Basically he was just telling Julian to use the system and to get the best of it in order to live well without being bound to concepts like nations and get exploited by others because of it. And the most direct way to do that is come in contact with the other side and avoid dehumanizing them. It's a really smart advice if anything else.
And lets not forget that despite this advice, Yang himself fought Reinhard and his dictatorship until the very end, not because he was forced to, but because of his own convictions. So it was never that he indirectly approved of Reinhard's reign. He just wanted to make sure that Julian would do everything he could to remain safe. If that's not parental love, what is it?

I was hoping for a more, you know, "legendary heroism" in this legend of galactic heroes.
So far, too many episodes have been people repeating arguments from previous ones, or launching too many Politics 101 phrases.
The very idea of people coming rallying around von Lohengramm to defend their GIVEN "freedoms" -not too many, and under surveillance of the not-secret-police- is laughable. The author is obviously biased towards his heroic Reinhard, so he is ready to pin the Alliance as a corrupt democracy*, but no problems with an un-elected duke ready to sacrifice 100 million people in a war because he's unable to get over his PTSD for Kircheis' death.
* which is corrupt because Voice of God says so, obviously. Everybody in the Empire loves Reinhard or there is something wrong with them.
And let's not talk about the fame of Yang Wen-li, which is easily defeated by "he cannot be in two places at the same time".
I understand the fame of this series, but it's been a whole disillusion with every chapter.

This season does have a lot of talking and is indeed low-key compared to the rest of the franchise. But people supporting Reinhard isn't as far-fetched as you make it out to be. Those "given" freedoms, they didn't have until Reinhard. People literally ran away and made the Free Planets Alliance because they couldn't have them. And yes, Reinhard is using them for his own ambitions, but the populace doesn't know that. They only see bad aristocrats, and the man that swiped them off and shared their wealth to the common folk. So what if he's a dictator that sends them off to be killed, in their eyes he's still the better option.
As for Yang, I don't see how that defeats his fame. He is but one person. The democracy he's fighting for is as corrupt as it gets, and that has been made very clear through multiple examples. But he's still fighting for it.

Phezzan has lived in the comfort and safety of their economic hold on the rest of the galaxy for so long, somebody even suggesting they could lose some of their autonomy, that it could be "sold, like a commodity" (the buying and selling of goods which Phezzan prides itself most on) stirs and shocks anyone who listened to Julian's offhanded comments. Rupert needed to really dig into him as damage control. But in a sense, Rupert is correct, Julian has pretty much nothing but conjecture going for him, and while it's entirely accurate, it's not backed up by any evidence in particular.
There's not really a whole lot Julian can do on Phezzan at this point. The Empire is already well on its way and despite Yang's prescience, Julian's power is severely limited as an individual.
The Frederica scene was cute. This is the first time we've really heard her feelings for Yang.

I am starting to believe that the Imperial operation is called "Ragnarök". I mean, it's just the second time they announce it.
Also, it's the nth repetition of "Phezzan corridor's status is not set in stone and it can be changed". Problem is that such emphasis on that it makes you wonder exactly why the Empire hasn't tried to force their hand before. What exactly allows them the use the Phezzan corridor now that it didn't before? Phezzan's leaders are the same, Phezzan forces too, the Empire might have had a minor revolution, but it has always had more forces and ships than the Alliance or the Phezzanese.
Quoting a Youtube channel, the Phezzan operation it's an idiot plot, it expects the characters acting like idiots. If you can just control one corridor, the sensible thing is spending a lot of money in Phezzan, their politicians and society in order to prevent any change of mind. But apparently, Julian's little chat in a societal party is the biggest effort the Alliance has done to keep Phezzanese's neutrality. It's not corruption, it's borderline stupidity and political blindness.
But I agree the little chat about how it's citizens who should change the politics in a democracy, not the army. Pity that Reinhards' rise to power in the Empire is just the opposite and, apparently, better for the people.

Reuenthal needs to post some better guards for the bridge of the Tristan. But that was an amazing encounter.

This anime is pretty good.
I would also personally recommend my friends here to watch the late 80s and 90s OVA of the same name (Legend of the galatic heroes or Ginga eeyuu densetsu) if they haven't already.
An amazing 110 episode ride that is so well paced and so meticulously written that I would call it one of my, if not my all time No.1 anime. It also has the largest ever va cast for any anime, if I remember correctly.

Season 5 when? Lol. They can't leave us hanging like that. Hopefully something gets announced soon and we don't have to wait so long like we did last time.

The finale definitely focused on Mittermeyer, Reinhard, and Rubinsky, at the cost of scenes with Julian, but it was still pretty damn good. I've been really impressed by this season overall, and hope DNT returns for more sometime soon. Of course, I also want the season to be dubbed and on disc, something CR seems in no hurry to do.
