Fact check, Canada was part of the Studio Ghibli deal with Netflix. We have all of the Studio Ghibli films (except for Grave of the Fireflies) on Netflix here in Canada.

I never expected we would see Ghibli take on a Star Wars project like this and with their traditional 2D animation. I can't wait to see what it will be like.

Just curious, for Netflix subscribers in Canada, does the GKIDS or Wild Bunch logo appear when you watch a Ghibli film on Netflix?

Canada, the US, and Japan weren’t part of the Netflix licensing deal handled by Wild Bunch (on behalf of Ghibli), since Wild Bunch doesn’t have the distribution sales rights to North America and Japan.

GKIDS (on behalf of Ghibli) entered into the licensing agreement with HBO Max in the US. Since HBO Max doesn’t operate in Canada, it’s likely GKIDS then entered in a separate agreement with Netflix, hence why Canada was added later.

Disc based media and is and theatrical distribution is handled by GKIDS, just like the US. The streaming, however, is with WildBunch. One nice consequence of that is that we get the UK English dub for Arrietty, which is much, much better than the US one.

Hm, to be honest, I thought this was going to be part of Star Wars: Vision. But still, I'm going to watch it because it's Studio Ghibli, well that and I've been a Disney+ subscriber since 2019.

I hope I'll enjoy it.
