Is Accel World still not finished yet?

Man, it's hard to not look forward to this.

When I read the headline, part of me kinda hoped he'd try to leave his comfort zone and write something NOT about MMO. Ah well.

In most cases leaving your comfort zone, and trying something different stops putting money in your wallet.

Ask Akira Toriyama.

The Isolator isn't about an MMO, so he has done it before. I am kinda surprised though since the last time he talked about writing something new he said he wanted to write a romance and this doesn't seem to be one.

Would like to see him finish one of his other series, but this does seem interesting.

Here here!

I absolutely love the way he describes things and his way with words. He's really good at getting emotions across as well and has managed to get me to cry more than once. Of the LNs I have read, his writing style is probably my favorite. He can be very funny too! Laughing

A Light Novel title that's not 15 pages long? What a rarity. All jokes aside, wonder what Kawahara will cook up in this new LN.

Ask Akira Toriyama.

I dunno, stepping away from "episodic gag manga with lots of poop jokes" seemed to work out for him.

I enjoy SAO but isn't this just the plot of the first SAO movie?

I haven't seen the movie, but it sounds like it's basically just a "real world" setting but with generic game systems tacked on.

Which is at least a new spin on a very (very) tired cliche. And if nothing else, we can at least be thankful that Kawahara isn't one of those writers who thinks the most interesting thing about video games is navigating menu screens. Which alone, I think, is sufficient to place his work in the better half of the Isekai genre, even when it's not even out yet.

lol yeah, I was gonna say. DBZ is one of the most successful manga series in history. Of all the possible examples out there to choose from... and they pick Toriyama.

Well, I generally don't like SAO but yup, it sure does sound like it could be. While I don't follow Reki-kun I would think he would try to break out of SAO and show he can write something else, more like The Isolator. But I guess the money didn't flow when he did, so no "starving artist" hmmm... Confused

And for those who say Riki is a good/great writer, I would remind that composition is one skill of at least two that if mastered can make you a good writer. Unfortunately, critiquing the composition I don't think can be done accurately unless you are very fluent in Japanese prose. It could be that what English speakers like about "his" writing and style could actually be due to a good translator with a bent for good English composition and writing.

The second skill is actually an ability, creativity, which I am not sure can be acquired by practice or study but is revealed by the breadth and uniqueness of thier story concepts, plotting and characterizations. Overall, I'd say his latest work puts Reki in the bottom part of "average" at best.
