The Nintendo 3DS is an amazing console. I bought the 3DS XL (bright red) 5, 6 years ago and it remains a priced possession.

I thought they'd already announced these dates, or at least that it would be in March.

I hope we get some decent sales before the eShops shutter. I've still got a handful of titles I'd like for each platform, but not at full price.

It does disappoint that literally every single outlet that reports on this situation neglects to bring up that, though prepaid cards won't be useable on Wii U & 3DS after August, users can still link their Nintendo Store (Wii U/3DS) account with their Nintendo eShop (Switch) account, and through the Switch can still add funds in order to buy stuff for the Wii U & 3DS up until the closure dates in March.

Likewise, Nintendo has done a poor job actually highlighting that fact, as it's only ever mentioned in the press releases themselves, usually right after the credit card & prepaid card cut offs, but never actually promoted in the shorter messages that people actually read. To a lot of people, this is the Wii Shop Channel all over again (i.e. it's effectively dead a year in advance), but the truth is that this isn't the case, unless you don't own a Switch yet.

Some companies have had repeated fire sales over the past half year or so for the 3DS, and I expect that to continue until the closure. Capcom, for example, often makes the Ace Attorney & Monster Hunter 3DS games all $4 each, while Resident Evil Revelations & Mercenaries 3D are literally only $2 each. In fact, that sale is active again as of this moment.

The Wii U sales aren't anywhere near as notable, mainly since you can only check them out via the Wii U itself now, but there is the occasional fire sale there, too.

Yes, they did announce March before. The precise date in March is the new part.

3DS owners: Hey can you guys do a sale of first party 3DS titles for 40-50% off?

Nintendo: Please understand selling Metroid Samus Returns & Kirby Epic Yarn at 39.99 is easily affordable.
