There's a certain other things also

Ex Funimation higher ups now at crunchyroll have their hands tied with old well known Funimation Texas voice actors

To keep most popular/hard hitting and long running shows to keep under texas voice over only only Crying or Very sad

Appreciate the article, one thing to note here is, while it is true that there are still people from outside of Texas in these shows, it seems that those are almost entirely (or maybe entirely) reprisals from previous shows with news show being from the region, so it, for now, appears that they have shut out people entirely for new shows.
That could change of course (at some point some big shounen will come along and perhaps that may see some change then) but with their rates still not changing and carrying people on exploitative contracts, I can see the company willing to take advantage of that for as long as they can.
Also doesn't help that quite a number of people moved in and around the pandemic from TX to LA, so it seems like we won't be seeing them again for the foreseeable future. CR wants product, but the actual quality (other than, at least passable) is not much of a concern to them and the conditions they have atm reinforce that.

sure, that much is understandable, but what are you trying to say with your first point? Genuinely don't understand what you are trying to say there

Why do have some weird obsession with Funimation?

I have predicted already and it's Crying or Very sad finally started to happen Sad

Here's my old comments
Under a Ann news articles
""" [But I have certain fears and concerns about future English dubbing situations Sad Confused
Since Funimation owns crunchyroll(Which use LA Studios in most of their Dubbed shows) after the merge I am afraid they will use only texas voice actors for their next licenced shows( Exclamation Exclamation Like they[Funimation] will have monopoly over Anime voiceover industry too] LA studios will be somehow affected by this(Unless Funimation sets up a branch in California Exclamation Exclamation ) Some voice actors have showed concerns over that u know https://twitter.com/BenjaminDiskin/status/1424868332138766373?s=19 Exclamation Exclamation ] "'''

I agree that SAG contracts should be used for future dubbing for multiple reasons, but did anyone really think they were going to be recording remotely forever? From what I understand, it’s very difficult and expensive compared to doing it all the in the studio, and from what I could tell, several indie studios have already moved back to doing it all in-person (and I don’t think Sentai was ever doing anything remotely. Could be wrong). I think the best compromise is to do what FUNi was starting to do in the past, and utilize a satellite studio in LA for actors out there (though it seemed to mostly be used for reprisals). Chris Sabat’s Okatron 5000 also has an LA satellite studio that seemed to work out well. If the dubs go union, it would make it easier to cast actors from the talent pool out there to find the best of both worlds.

A good friend of mine who had been trying to get into voice acting for years and years but didn't live in Texas or California, he was only able to get his first roles because of remote recording via Bang Zoom. That story can't be uncommon for actors who have recorded on Bang Zoom projects, CR projects or others over the course of the (ongoing) pandemic.

There is no reason for a company 95% owned by one of the largest corporations on the planet to use Texas labor law to avoid treating its talent with the respect they deserve.

Gen Fukunaga remains chairman of Crunchyroll but he's not GM of Crunchyroll and he only owns 5% of the company, so he's not calling the shots.

I appreciate the confirmation of what is happening. The signs were there that it was being done on site. The speed and number of dubs was closer to pre-2020, and we're back to substitute actors if someone isn't available for part of the season.

Unfortunately, Crunchyroll being owned by Sony isn't going to make a difference on its own. It could probably afford to sign union contracts, but outside of good PR, there isn't much incentive on its end. Sony already had access to the resources to dub in-house via Funimation, and that came with access to a talent pool that routinely did non-union work.

Those actors would have to not only be willing to decline the work, but do so in an environment where they have few, if any, supports, whether because of state laws there or because they were not union members anyway. In that scenario, I can't blame them for continuing to take roles, even if it does undermine the prospects union contracts or comparable terms.

I don't think anyone ever truly expected all-remote to continue being a thing for dubbing, but I do think that most expected remote to continue to be used as an option, especially for those who don't work out of two specific regions (Texas & LA). Instead, outside of likely very specific exceptions for certain reprisals (though there have already been re-castings so that it could be done locally), it looks like Crunchyroll wants to essentially return back to dubbing things all in-house, despite the positive response that remote dubbing has had when it comes to giving tons of new talent a chance to shine, when they otherwise never would have before.

Instead of biting the bullet & having to spend a little extra to accommodate remote dubbing when needed (& they obviously have the experience to continue doing it), Crunchyroll instead is just going to penny pinch as much as possible in order to maximize potential profit & focus almost exclusively on in-house work in Texas. It's essentially telling anyone who finally got a break via remote dubbing "Sorry, you were always expendable, so if you want to actually be valuable then you have to uproot your entire life to where we record from, because 'Status Quo is God'. Otherwise, start your own studio & then you can do it local, too.", and that's just messed up.

It's taking advantage of a bad situation & then going "Thank you for your service; now leave" when you no longer have to rely on the people who benefitted from it.
