Sayla slapping Sleggar!
Looks like a fun, classic, Gundam adventure. Which fits. |

New Article Posting Pro Tip: Posting relevant information only allows for an easy-to-read, non-bloated article. Every post you make about this movie copies and pastes previous postings. Just link to them instead of constantly adding old information.
You also keep erroneously including the Cucuruz Doan's spinoff manga next to this movie when neither it nor the Origin has anything to do with it. Yas has specifically stated in interviews that it's a remake of the original series episode and has distanced himself from branding it as such (Ogata, the producer concurs). |

I'm trying to figure out what the purpose of this movie really is. I'm intrigued, don't get me wrong, but it seems like an alternate universe stand-alone episode of established UC canon. If it's really a remake of the original TV series episode, to right its shortcomings, it has seemingly made a number of changes with characters and I think uniforms and tech that would not fit within the continuity of the 1979 TV series. Stretching tech is one thing (it's been done in a lot of UC side stories), but having Bright with the blue uniform and having Sleggar Law there really makes it awkward as a TV series-based remake. |

Well, that's the problem: everyone keeps trying to shoehorn every single Gundam work/production into some homogenous cohesion instead of just taking works for what they are: entertainment. Sure, things don't match up based on aesthetics, but creators say what they say for a reason. Then again, that doesn't stop the fandom from doing their own thing. If you check my site, you can see interviews from Yas and Ogata on the movie. I've been trying to stay ahead of the curve with them. Even if you were to lump it in the Origin, that still doesn't work on account of a bunch of other changes made. Yas has wanted to make up for that atrocious episode, and he has in his own way. Maybe he got trapped in "Yas World" when making it and no one bothered stopping him and assumed it'd be stuck under the banner of the Origin? |

It's been a while since I read THE ORIGIN, but what about this doesn't fit with that continuity? EDIT: In fact, reading the interview that you translated, it certainly seems like Yas believes it could be folded into ORIGIN's version of events if one was so inclined - that it's not necessary to have read THE ORIGIN to watch it, but that if it's part of any continuity, that'd be the one. |

Yes and no. That was sort of a back-pressed-to-the-wall kinda comment. But, as I said, even if you wanted to, you couldn't. There's some events that they're spinning in the movie that don't really go with the flow for the Origin, if that latest PV is anything to believe. But, again, it's really pointless to try and shoehorn it into one avenue or another if those in charge clearly aren't. |

Fair enough. It's basically an artist going "all in" to rectify what was perceived as an embarrassment, and that has changed into basically making this a stand-alone piece of art. I'll just enjoy it for what it is. I appreciate some of the embellishments I'm seeing. But Gundam sure is in a bit of a weird spot right now in terms of its projects, and I was just curious what was going on. Thanks for keeping on top of this. I guess I'm sort of surprised he went all in on this obscure piece versus a Crusher Joe or Venus Wars revival. |
