Unless the manga-ka is non-binary or similar, why does the article say "their" when addressing the creator?

I'd assume that's because his gender wasn't known to the article writer (Yu ユウ is a unisex given name). Apparently he's male:

Mangakas are usually pretty reclusive and would often keep information about them private.

Kind of surprised this isn't airing during an Olympic year. Or maybe it was meant for 2020 but got delayed. Either way, it's going to be interesting to see a full-on judo anime all these years removed from Yawara!, especially as the sport has some actual popularity in the US now.
