Is the content really that racy or does it just sound like it? I'm guessing the latter, but I could be wrong.

Don't blame all of us.
Blame Zac if you want for bringing it up, but realistically some of us were arguing the wait & see side. I read the Satanic Bible for myself because I was tired of other people telling me what it says (& it's really more humanist than evil). Blame Seven Seas for getting your hopes up. They know the environment in the States. They needed to be fully aware of what the reaction could be. As much as someone at the company may have liked it, they needed to be sure the sexualization was acceptable. It's allegedly funny for inappropriate misunderstanding like the baby in Meet the Fockers to allegedly pick up the "F" word as his first coherent uttering. Or there's the acceptable precociousness of Kindergarten Cop with the 5 yr olds again knowing words most of us probably didn't at that age. If the girl were simplyu crushing on the teacher & acting out her idea of how to seduce him, we've even seen that, but that carries an air of innocence because most younger girls view marriage as playing house, not the bedroom part. Even that one bit everyone was getting worked up about (the "inside" bit)--if it was a typo type thing, a mis-speak, it would be ok, a "Kids say the darnedest things". It's like the fine line on shouta in yaoi--some of these boys may look like 10 yr olds, but that's the artstyle. As long as they can indicate the boy is in college or has a job, he just looks young, he's not actually young. Yes, there's a fine line ot the fact of the age of consent in Japan being a bit lower than the age of consent in the US, so usually we see that "everyone's an adult if they're having sex" in the front of yaoi titles. MB sort of messed up in one point of Level C forgetting they'd changed all the High School refs to College and one slipped by, but they can claim typo because the indication is he was very much the age of consent and even working to support himself. Seven Seas had the job BEFORE they started signing papers to make sure it had an acceptable innocence to it & not a pedophile nature. Now is sort of late to worry about it all. They can always direct sale it thru online outlets(E-Bay), but if it's that questionable, they probably shouldn't have licensed it in the first place. I don't think they can pass the girl off as 18.(flunked a whole lot of grades? In a coma for 10 yrs? Some magic spell made her body regress, but she's actually older. Oh, yeah. Detective Conan's already doing that one) |

It's not like anyone couldn't see this coming from a mile away. A sexualized portrayal of preteens is bound to be controversial in North America, and the publisher had to have known that even before they licensed the thing.
On a similar note, it appears that the Answerman got under somebody's skin. (I'm the one who attempted to play the voice of reason in the comments, only to be called names I haven't had directed at me since middle school.) I'm as willing to listen to a reasoned explanation as the next person, but it isn't exactly doing your cause a favor when your "rebuttal" consists of spewing bile. Sell it online or some crap. Most (if not all) of the anime stores I buy from sell hentai as well.... so a few suggestive themes from a loli manga shouldn't be much. God damn it I hate it when people ruin my fun just because they don't like it |

Oh, they split the threads into two. My comments can be found in this one.

Well, because they're talking about spoiler[an 8 year old wanting to have sex with her teacher, ]have you ever seen that happen anywhere in this country? And with all the anti-child porn/lolicon/anti-pedophile activists in this country, I'm not surprised. If this thing were to get out it'd probably get onto Good Morning America or Dr. Phil, now that's a show to go to |

They can buy ANY cutsy shojo-type title like DiGi Charat & still drool all they want. Even Clamp enjoys panty-shots & I've seen a few that have raised my eyebrows at their placement. How many times do we see naked boys in anime & manga? I'm sure there are some naked little girls also, I'm just not into shojo as much so I probably have less opportunity considering a lot of the naked boys are traipsing thru shonen titles (Goku never owned swim trunks as a boy.) |

Ban Kodocha, Sana has an adult "pimp". And Sakura in CCS was in love with a HS student. Also ban Ranma 1/2 (Akane in love with Dr Tofu), Initial D (Mogi is having sex with a much older man and taking money from him for it), Negima (14yr old girls want a 9yr old boy and Asuna wants her much older teacher). Oh and lets not start on Kite Lets ban all manga and all anime that even hints at any relationships that are not deemed ok.

Wow, now that's mature! You know, I haven't participated in the Nymphet debate so I won't comment on it, but P-L-E-A-S-E lay off the Natzis part, ok? Or at least learn some history before you use that name for people who disagree with you on a questionable content of a manga series! I know many like to bring Godwin's law at times, but seriously guys--just knock it off already! |

Phew ....
Thank goodness. I would have hated to have the the US media get their paranoid hands on that title. I stayed out of the debate, but I must admit hearing about Seven Seas licensing a title such as this one made be squirm. It didn't help that someone posted a scan of that one particular page either. More squirming soon commenced. Anyway, good on ya Seven Seas! Although they should have known better and never licensed this at all, it's good to see them put this on (hopefully permanent) hiatus. |

The media and these so called activists are so hypocritical when it comes to this stuff. If they want to make sure that their kids are reading and watching the right kind of material, why don't they push for an incentive to remove a lot of crap that they have on television these days. People (characters within series)have sex on public television, I mean come on!! |

You know, I was going to comment, but I really just don't feel like saying any more than I already have at this point. I think this controversy is pointless and silly, I think Nymphet will be published despite the online debates, and I intend to buy it when it comes out.
If people want to gloat over a supposed victory, fine. When the great Manga Apocalypse that people keep claiming is just one loli away from happening comes, PM me. At this point, I'm just going to start getting rude if I keep posting on the subject and I really don't want to do that. So have a nice day everyone. |
