I think the show is good right now, not great but good and with this pacing, it will definitely need another season in the future.

Artwork is nice, very fitting adapted by the manga and most of the action so far imo looks nice. One of my favorite OP song this season as well. The fist two episodes introduced the main concepts so expecting more of the characters to make their on screen appearances soon. Definitely liked the second episode more than the first so far.

After watching both episodes, it really does feel like I'm looking at a kids version of One Punch Man. Expect there are no ranks/classes among the heroes and it's best to have a Quirk, so you can be a better hero.

An a random note: All Might's deflated form looks like a ghoul. Or a scary nerd.

I want to watch this show but I have a feeling FUNimation will perhaps start a broadcast dub of this so I might wait a while to see if that happens.

They've already confirmed that they are doing a broadcast dub. We just don't know if they're planning to put it on DubbleTalk or Toonami just yet.

"The energy and passion that goes into his big make-it-or-break it scenes is frankly from another planet."

Horikoshi is one of the best mangakas out there on chapter ending pages. He knows exactly how to end a chapter to leave you screaming for more. To end on that perfect moment of victory, defiance, heroics, etc... For such a newcomer he has this born talent to bring that out in a manga. This is one of the reasons this has become one of my favorite mangas to read each week. My favorite moment of these two episodes is where All Might catches up with Deku to talk to him after the villain attack. That moment when All Might tells Deku he can be a hero keeps getting me after reading the chapter a number of times and seeing it over and over again.

I would be a huge liar if I didn't say that I don't sob when Midoriya or his mom start crying, because I did when I started the manga, and I do now. I'm unsure too as to how Horikoshi does it, but there is definetely something in his storytelling and art that just punches me in the gut really hard, and definetely BONES matches his work with scary perfection.

Most likely, I think that there is huge emotion put into whatever scene he is doing except when humour or infodump is considered, all his effort is not in just making it look cool (which he does, awesomely so), but every action scene "breathes" with the character's emotion, from their movement to their face and dialogue. The animation just makes it even more obvious with voice acting, this series is emotionally honest.

By the way, All Might's skinny design is my favorite, Bakugou's and Momo's outifts are second by a thin margin. It's not related to any other in the series at all, but...it's just so cool, it reminds me a lot of Shaman King. I don't know how to say it, he is just plain cool like that.

Re: Cowboy shonen - Gun Blaze West from the author of Rurouni Kenshin? It didn't last long, though.

The way it was hyped before release one might think it was supposed to be something radically different from the standard tournament shounen formula. In reality however My Hero Academia probably the most by the numbers WSJ property of recent years. I would've loved it 8 years ago, but after years of consuming virtually indistinguishable manga and anime I'm patiently waiting to the moment when someone at WSJ will shake things up.

On the subject, episode 2 was decent. I like the dynamic between All Might and Deku (yes, I actually forgot his real name). There were a few funny moments, usually those that involved All Might's true form. Fight scenes on the other hand, well, they look like they were done by some Imaishi wannabe who never learned what makes Imaishi's action scenes exciting in the first place.

I'm so happy to see this manga get an anime worthy of it. It may be trading in the classic Jump formula, but it's the BEST execution of the formula to come along in a long time (unless you count One Punch Man, but that's more of a subversion.) Horikoshi's art style translates really well to animation, and the whole thing just has a great sense of fun and energy. My Hero Academia has been a major success in Japan (enough that, in terms of reader polls, it's been able to compete evenly with big names like Naruto and One Piece) and it looks like they found the right team to make it a big hit internationally as well. I'll be shocked if we don't see this on Toonami by the end of the year.

Anyway, I don't think there's ever been a popular Shonen Jump cowboy manga. Nobuhiro Watsuki (creator of Kenshin) did make a noble attempt with Gun Blaze West, which featured a standard-issue plucky boy hero in the old west. His goal was to find a legendary town where all the toughest cowboys gather (where he would, presumably, spend several story arcs fighting all of them) but it was cancelled after dozen chapters or so.

I don't really get this comparison. They're nothing alike tonally, thematically, or in terms of plot/characters. I guess the fact that it's a Japanese take on American comics makes it an inevitable comparison.

Anyways, I'm enjoying MHA considerably more than OPM already because it has a much more broad emotional range (OMP was either funny or exciting with nothing in between). On top of that, even the action scenes are better IMO because of the emotional investment I have in them.

I've heard that eps.3-4 are going to be a lot less exciting than the first 2 eps. but hopefully it's not that drastic of a drop!

Episode 2 was definitely great: the action scene in the middle, with Midoriya trying to rescue Bakugo, was charged with so much energy that I found myself cheering for the guy, even though I knew exactly what would happen by reading the manga. Likewise, when All Might tells Midoriya that he can become a hero, I almost teared up seeing how emotional our protagonist got (again, even though I already knew that would happen).

I must give a lot of credit to the staff at work, because these two episodes actually affected me more than the first chapter of the manga, probably because they decided to cut it in half, thus giving each individual moment more emphasis than they would with just a single episode. Midoriya's chat with All Might on the roof, for example, felt much more meaningless, and the villain attack had the stakes upped by actually showing the heros trying to fight him, while in the manga they all just kept their distance from the most part.

So yeah, it might be a pretty by-the-numbers show as far as WSJ adaptations go, but as the reviewer said, the execution makes it stand above most others. If you just focus on the plot instead of how amazingly it's being presented, then you're missing out.

How is All Might able to summon the strength to temporarily re-assume his original form? Exceptionally strong willpower?

I believe so? It's not that he CAN'T re-assume his original form for more than 3 hours, but doing so puts his health at an incredible risk. It's the medical sort of can't.

It's basically his Quirk (not heavy spoilers ahead but in case): spoiler[his Quirk grants him tremendous superstrenght but not all the time, when he is not using it is when he is in his true form, and he is using it when he is in hero form. It's kind fo like a switch, although using it clearly tires him out.]

"Why it clicks you ask?"

That's simple sir:

It clicks because Deku is "Real".

Tell me, if Natsu, Naruto, Luffy or any other Shounen Hero had jumped on that "Rescue Scene" they would have done it with "Guns Blazing" either with a lame plan or sheer power and would have rescued Bakugo with a poker face or a confident smile?

Or course.

Deku was not like that, he moved on instinct, without a plan, without power, without a smile nor confidence on himself, he did it because Bakugo "looked like he need help" and would have certainly died if not for All Might, like a lame kid, like a normal kid.

That felt 100% Real.
