Due to the heavy focus on swearing and rude jokes present in the manga, many shops and PR materials warned customers that people with "good sense" should not buy the manga.

If that's the case, then why would they sell it even though it's devoted the Marines?

I actually have the first book that's basically a training guide to obscenity
At least they seem to grasp the idea, but what it really means to them I haven't a clue

It's one of those things that has such an odd contrast that the only thing that comes to mind is bizarre-cute

Once you get past the culture-shock it's a very fun read!

I think I read once that both "chan" and "tan" are derived childish mispronunciations of "san", actually("chan" having actually been formalized/assimilated into normal speech).

Adding more info for the book:

Ai Tokunaga as Pixel Maritan (USMC)
Ayako Kawasumi as Navy-san (USN)
Tomoko Kaneda as Army-san (USA)
Maii Kadowaki as Jieitan (JSDF)
Mami Kingetsu as Jooh-sama (Queen)
Jouji Nakata as Fidel Ca*tro, President of the Council of State Laughing

Furthermore, according to the official blog a year ago, Yui Horie was the planned cast for Jieitan, but the job was declined by her agency ARTS VISION due to "changing global status." Anime smile + sweatdrop

I saw some stuff on youtube last year of this. Basically they were quoting lines from Full Metal Jacket. Absolutely hysterical to hear in cutesy engrish.

I wonder if the US military could sue for misrepresentation?
"Cute" is definitely not how they want to sow fear into their enemies. Razz

Chan did definitely come from san. And it is possible that tan did too, but I'm more inclined to believe that it came from chan. Though it's interesting to note that san itself original came from an abbreviation of sama.

Yep, the expats in Japan have been getting a laugh at that for years.

And don't forget the new one. Very Happy
