They haven't done an anime funeral since the 70's, right?

When Roy Focker died in The Super Dimension Fortress Macross in 1983, fans at one Japanese school got together and held a memorial service, complete with a procession and the obligatory larger-than-life portrait of the deceased. It was completely planned by fans, but it became famous with write-ups and photos in the Japanese anime magazines of the time.

I wonder if they all chanted "King! Raoh! King! Raoh!" like they did during Raoh's march in the FotNS movie. Very Happy

And people wonder why otaku look at Japan as if it was some sort of fantasy-land.

Actually, it was a pretty solemn event, despite the fact that one overzealous fan came dressed as Jaggi (sans shirt and everything - pretty impressive considering how cold it was).
They even had memorial portraits up for every major(ish) character who has died to date - the one for Hart being particularly popular with a group of school girls for some reason....

but Raoh died almost 15 years ago and nobody said anything? isnt a little too late to have a funeral?

I refuse to recognize the raoh of the new movies, the Raoh of the 70's tv series was much, much better!!!

I remember in 1972 when Rikiishi of Ashita no Joe died in the manga, he was given a funeral and they did a 30 year anniversary of it.

Speaking of the new voice actor doing the funeral

How come the voice cast of Hokuto no Ken was changed? I know that Rei's and Rin's voice actors have passed away but changing the rest is inexcusiable. I mean, the ne wgame on PS2 still has most of the voice actors like Kenshiro and Rei.

If anyone can tell me with a source why they changed it, I'll stop my ranting.

The voice cast was perfect to begin with. Raoh's new voice actor doesn't do his justice. He lacks the charisma Kenji Utsumi had and he doesn't bring any voice to the character. Kenshiro now played by Abe Hiroshi sounds like a smoker and doesn't really sound all that intimidating.

I heard they got Miki Shin'ichiro to play Rei. He does sound a lot like his original voice actor and I'm willing to give him a chance.

Interesint with Souther, he is played by the Twin Snakes. Banjo Ginga, the original actor from the series plays Liquid Snake and Akio Ohtsuka in the new movies plays Solid Snake. I also recognized Jiraiya from Naruto as Shuu. I thought he did ok.

The art itself is much more faithful to the manga, but the new voices sorta ruin it for me.

So wait...

Someone needs to run this by me again:

How come we somehow have the OAV, but not the movies and the other new stuff?

*OAV didn't sell or the new stuff is too expensive... are the answers, I'm assuming*

Yeah... never mind...

Oh, and spoilers for the lose.
