Again I'm sad about Shaman King not being simulcasted... I'm quite interested in what new watchers think of it so this way I will get way fewer impressions of others. This preview guide would have been a good place to read some too.

Oh well, nothing that can be done about it. Time to wait until the other anime on my watchlist get their first episode released! Shadows House especially.

when I read koikimo synopsis I knew I wasn't going to watch that it is just disgusting

in relation to Moriarty I was so looking forward. we all know that sherlock has a soft attitude with adler, so the development of this female kinda criminal is intriguing and very interesting. Now let's see what it is going to happen with Albert.

btw I really want to see the reviews about spoiler[James bond character and how the reviewer is gonna laugh about it lol. Pretty sure that episode gonna drop in its ranking lol]

oh and red mars is so boring zzz

Kiyo in Kyoto - I understand that the show isn’t for everyone. I personally love the ‘dish of the day’ segments. The second episode’s dish of the day segments were particularly interesting. It’s a shame that it’s a monthly series but at least I’ve got something to look forward to every month.

Before Crunchyroll picked it up, I stayed up late to watch it on the NHK World website. I’m so glad that CR picked it up. Didn’t have an issue with using the NHK World website as the series is also available VOD but it’s so much more convenient to watch it on CR.

Mars red - Great character designs and I love the setting. OST is excellent too.

However, this first episode was boring as hell. I’m obviously aware that not every anime will spoon feed me the plot.

I found it a little slow. Like Rebecca, I’ll just assume it’s the prologue.
I didn’t mind the heavy dialogue as I found it interesting. I do love the mystery vibe.

Moriarty - I’m so glad this show (and Rebecca’s awesome reviews) is back. I’m loving this version of Irene already. I know it defeats the purpose of the show but I prefer seeing more of Sherlock and Watson than Moriarty and co.

Joran - like some of the reviewers, I also found the first episode a LOT to take in. Not sure if I’ll stick with it. The setting is cool but the story is confusing. I want a parasol crossbow too

I had fun reading ANN reviewers roasting Koikimo.

Honestly, I'm massively impressed with Mars Red first episode. I can see that it will be controversial, but for me there is a lot of depths here that can be unpacked despite the simplicity at first glance. I think this one will land, and it'll definitely be controversial if I say I see more potential in this than Wonder Egg Priority, a series that I find to not live up to its potential after all.

It's a non-canon skit, but watching this sure made me warm up to Maeda.

I tend to like shows about generally put-upon characters as long as I don't particularly empathize with them, so Koikimo works fine for me. But it's clear that there are a lot of people who will empathize with her (including the target audience, apparently?), just as I expect I'm going to be pretty unable to watch the bullying-themed romcom later this season. There's a reason that these shows tend to be more universal when it's, say, a dragon moving into your apartment.

Not sure what to think of Dynazenon yet since we're still in the dark, but I like the character dynamics so far. Gauma looks like he's going to be a fun character, meanwhile Yume, despite her looks, is nothing like Rikka at all, she definitely has issues but I wouldn't compare her to Akane either, she's her own beast.

Mentioning Tropical-Rouge! Precure is basically cheating since we're already at episode 5, but I greatly enjoyed my time with it.

I was blown away by the first episode of Mars Red. The trailers made it look rather boring, mostly showing guys in military uniforms standing around talking about vampires.

Imagine my surprise when I found myself enthralled for the entire episode. I was immediately hooked by the theatrical widescreen and amazing cinematography, and I always appreciate subtlety in a story. I've grown quite tired of anime's eagerness to explain everything. Mars Red gives you just enough to piece together what's going on, and then lets you put it together yourself.

This first episode was a pretty self-contained story though, so it remains to be seen how consistent these positives will be throughout it's run, but I'm certainly on-board for now.

In a way, I envy the people who can laugh at it, because it means they've never had a person make a dozen new accounts to get around their blocks. They've never ended a friendship because a man they thought they could trust turned out to have preyed on dozens of vulnerable younger people. It means they've never had their mother look into their eyes while talking about rock stars sleeping with teenage girls and say, “I could put so many people in jail.” It sounds nice.

I definitely understand being repulsed by the subject matter in Koikimo, but I also don't think this paragraph follows in regards to the target audience. The idea that the adult women this show/manga is aimed at must have never experienced sexual mistreatment is unfair and reductive. Reviewers on ANN have never done well when psycho-analyzing target audiences, but I especially dislike it when it means that someone who potentially did like the show would be put in the position of having to disclose painful personal circumstances in order to "defend" it.

I can't see SSSS.Gridman being topped. Thanks to the convenient amnesia trope - plus certain characters choosing to withhold information for their own reasons (some of which made no sense in retrospect but was very good for storytelling at the time) - the whole thing was a massive mystery that kept you guessing, sparked a million fan debates and didn't get fully unpacked until the after-credits stinger following the final episode. But going forward we already know what "SSSS" means - for example - so they are going to have to play the story structure straight and find narrative strengths elsewhere.

Gridman also could be enjoyed at multiple levels.
1. You could disengage your brain, focus on the action, visuals and cute girls - all three of which were among Trigger's very best - and have a grand old time.
2. OR you could ponder the show's rather deep sci-fi and philosophical themes which included an affectionate deconstruction of the heavily teen male audience that is most likely to indulge in 1. spoiler[such as how the female characters were the real heroes and story drivers and the male ones ranged from villains to supporting players to useless].

While delivering more 3G - guns, graphics and girls - will satisfy group 1. (especially with the increase in budget/production values that generally comes with sequels) building on 2. without either retreading familiar territory or coming off overly pretentious or cynical: again challenge for a sequel, especially for an anime original that doesn't rely (directly) on existing source material.

I dont care one bit about the "older guy/girl + young girl/guy" romance plot, i even love some series of that type, but HOLY CRAP! Koikimo is the trashier thing i ever watched/read lol The main guy is basically an annoying pedo stalker that cant understand a NO!

Score: -100 / 10;
