Wait, so is this a anime anthology in the same vein as Halo Legends, Batman: Gotham Knight, The Animatrix? If it is, it'll be the first time I've seen Star Wars getting a anime media given that it had manga (and one that was announced many months back):

Yes, these are real manga adaptation of Star Wars. So a anime anthology is going to be interesting. This part of the article got my attention:

Quote:
with the "world's best Japanese anime creators" attached to the project

Is there any specifics on which creators or studio? I wouldn't be surprised if Madhouse, Studio 4c, Production IG got involved in this anthology. I would be surprised if Studio Trigger was also part of this.

It's Disney Plus, not Netflix, and it's not a full show like Resistance, so hopefully it's "actual anime". But you're probably right to be cautious.

Also of note is the Leia: Princess of Aleraan manga.

I think that's "actual manga", in that it came out in Japan, before America, and was intended primarily for the Japanese market (though the story was by Claudia Gray.)

I hope Toei is one of those studios, it would be interesting to see their take on the Star Wars universe. OLM, Inc. should create a short for this project as well.

This depends entirely on who get they get for this. It can be fun if they get the right people, or Polygon could ruin everything.

Very surprised that this Anime Collaboration, along with the kindly-old Rebel Pilot and the return of Ming-Na's character in The Mandalorian, was green lit under Kathleen Kennedy's authority. She, after all, is the same producer who caved into the demands of tweeting klansmen angered by Asian Actors Donnie Yen and Kelly Marie Tran even taking part in the Star Wars universe, and reduced Rose Tico from the first Strong Positive Heroic Asian Leading Lady in Star Wars into a silent menial extra with less than 77 seconds of screentime in The Rise of Palpatine (Not sorry, that film was the FALL of the Skywalker family). Wouldn't making this blatant a Positive-Asian styled Star Wars further enrage Kathleen Kennedy's twitter addicted white-supremacist masters?

Yeah, I'm hoping Toei would be involved in this one given their history with Halo Legends, and also given their past works involving with American animation (ie: Marvel, Hanna Barbera, etc...). I would love TMS Entertainment to get involved since they too were involved with American animation including both Disney, and Marvel. So it's highly likely Toei and TMS would be the highest contenders to get involved with Star Wars.

But the idea of having OLM, inc involved would be very interesting. I could see something like that happening. I would be surprised if Studio Trigger get involved. One thing that'll give me a body shock: If Disney and Lucasfilm were able to get Studio Ghibli involved in this one (or going as far as to get Hayao Miyazaki to direct the animated short on Ghibli's behalf), I better hope it doesn't lead to conflict between Disney and Warner Bros because HBO Max (owned by Warner Bros) is the current stream holder for Studio Ghibli.

All the same, very excited if this project does go through as promised, with Two Studios in particular:

1) Kyoto Animation has time and again proven themselves with K-ON! and collaborations with tearjerking-maestro Maeda Jun (AIR, KANON, CLANNAD) to be the undisputed masters of heartwarming music coupled with majestic-sunset landscapes. Oh, the sheer epic poetry they would weave if they could produce shorts about Alderaaan in the peaceful days of Leia's childhood, or a Ballad of Padme of Anakin.

2) Ufotable has also proven itself to be the go-to studio for turning Sword-Battles into sagas of balletic steel, especially when they incorporate the operatic majesty of Kajiura Yuki's Music. One 's heart fills with Warrior's Fire at even the possibility of Lighstaber Battles directed in the ferociously beautiful style of Fate Zero, Fate: Heaven's Feel , and especially the style of Kimetsu No Yaiba: Demon Slayer in Episode 19 and the Mugen Resha: Infinity Train Movie. Very Happy

I still think that accusation is anecdotal and gut feeling at best.

Yeah if what happened to Tran was a result of Kathleen Kennedy Capitulating to certain interests than one would think Rey would’ve gotten killed off and replaced by Kylo at some point since many of the same people that whined about Finn & later Rose weren’t happy with Rey being revealed as one of the three main characters in Force Awakens.

While Toei Animation, OLM and TMS Entertainment are good choices to do Star Wars anime short. The studios I really want to do this are not only Production I.G and Satelight but the one and only Sunrise and BONES! Especially Sunrise, seeing how Star Wars was a huge influence on Gundam made by Sunrise. Always love Sunrise as my favorite anime studio next to Studio Ghibli and I hope Disney gets Sunrise to do some Star Wars stuff, I can't wait!

Just let Ufotable coupled with Composer Kajiura Yuki Animate and Orchestrate the lot of them; having an entire series with the Operatic Majesty of the Final Battle from “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba” Episode 19 will Elevate “Star Wars” as a Whole out of the quagmire that is “Fall Of Skywalker”, and also Finally show the Western mainstream what TRUE Anime is capable of. Smile

Arguments aside: This is something of a dream for me coming true, since I believe dHalo Legends and Gotham Knight showed that there was interest of Japan in making works of notable western IP, and I wished in some sort of anniversary, Star Wars would get the same. And lo and behold, it's finally coming!

There's the usual suspects of Production I.G, Studio 4C and Madhouse in doing the animations given their previous works, but I'm willing to bet Trigger would be part of it given how popular they are in the West, and if it comes to CG works, Orange would be great to use too thanks to Beastars. And if they're willing to go higher, give MAPPA and Ufotable shots too!

Production I.G getting involved with Star Wars anime is nothing new. Remember they were involved with other anime anthologies involving western properties like Halo Legends, and Batman: Gotham Knight. So I wouldn't be surprised they're maybe involve with this. I don't ruled out BONES because they too were involved with Halo Legends like Production I.G. But having Satelight in this would be very interesting given their involvement with Macross. Sunrise is another possibility I hope would get involved given that Char Aznable was influenced by Darth Vader, and Sunrise are really good with sci-fi stuff, so Star Wars would be something interesting I would like to see from them. Well that and Sunrise did the animation for several episodes of Batman: TAS.

Oh jeez, the idea of having Sunrise, and Satelight getting involved makes me drool what the final product would look like.
