Who's betting that this is because of the Maruta controversy?

He has gone on breaks before, so no.
Frankly, all mangaka who release chapters weekly should go on a break regularly for the sake of their health.

No one, cause these breaks are planned WEEKS in advance by Shounen Jump. The same reason One piece and Black Clover went on breaks the weeks prior. It’s a rotation so one of the managakas get some time off. This still would’ve happened regardless, it’s just the controversy happened to coincide with it. It’s the same reason no one from the communities are raising a big fuss about it.

Usually though when a series goes on break they give a reason for the break. It's odd they didn't this time.

This week, Black Clover was on break and they didn't say the reason for it. I guessing they giving the Mangaka more breaks and that a good thing

All the crap Horikoshi's been through past couple of weeks, I don't blame the guy. But they also got that virus around, so everyone's on edge. So many things delayed or canceled due to it.

Editor: So this new villain, Hadolf Itler...?

Morikoshi: Yeah?

Editor: No. You're gonna have to redo this whole chapter.
