This one was totally under my radar, but after reading this review I think I'm going to pick it up the next I'm in Borders. It sounds fascinating.

I'm right there with you. I never would have even noticed this without the review. Thanks!

Very small nit-pick, but it doesn't "peak" your curiosity so much as it "piques" your curiosity. Same pronunciation, different word. (God, I hate myself for even posting that! Sorry, didn't mean to detract from a great review!)

I've never read it, but just from the description, I can't help but think of Black Jack.

Oh, goodness. And I have a degree in English. See what all that money got me? Love you for pointing that out...

I would have thought it would be a bit pointless being an embalmer in Japan as they mostly cremate their dead in rather quick time after death. Still I guess it makes for a good story.

That's part of the point of the story. Until recently (and even now, I suppose), embalmers were considered to be outcasts in society, since the practice of embalming went against Japanese traditions and beliefs.

I found this series to be really interesting, if a bit odd at times, and I liked the art a lot as well. The freakishly long toes did creep me out a bit, though.
