Oh, I would have loved to see this! This sort of opening up to people about industry work is always fascinating.

I'm sorry, but CrunchyCon was bad. As someone who bought the highest tier pass this year, yeah...really was not happy and won't be returning unless I can get something more than just a regular autograph from the guests. I could care less about pins, limited edition tchotchkes and whatever excess junk that didn't sell on your site that you're throwing into my premium 'swag bag'. If the guest doesn't want to draw, that's one thing, but having staff actively tell the guest not to draw...that's a big no-no from me. If I wanted that, I'd just go to Anime Expo instead and spend $1K on a hotel room I'd never use as I'd be standing in line waiting for autograph line tickets instead of sleeping. Did AX give out granola bars like they did as swag in the past? I'd probably get more use out of that then the tchotchkes. |

[Removed the personal argument here. The target of your criticism saw your post, and may or may not take it into consideration in the future. No need for it to remain. -T]

Are we talking about the fans on both sides of the Pacific or just in Japan? And while we're on the subject of fandom impact, is the industry willing to acknowledge that 20th century patrons helped shape the distribution of anime in America or will their efforts be conveniently disregarded because today's industry professionals and fandom regard that era as an "experiment" and don't believe it worthwhile because anime was too expensive at the time? |

Is this streaming anywhere? It's the exact type of thing I've always wanted to see about anime. I've always been into insider news and business. When we had to do write up s on newspaper stories in elementary school, I always chose the business or technology section for my articles.
I think they always acknowledge that they're here because of their fans, whether it was 20th or 21st century. If you're asking will they elevate 20th century fans as like gods or something... probably not. 2018 Ford thanks all of it's customers, not just people who purchased the Model T in like 1903 or whatever. To be honest, the porn industry and porn piracy probably deserves more credit for shaping digital video distribution in the 1990s than anime.
Crunchyroll if you're reading this: this person is like the only person on Earth that wants granola bars rather than tchotchkes. Please don't switch over to granola bars. Last edited by Mr. sickVisionz on Thu Dec 06, 2018 2:41 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Except Ford never had reservations about letting its cars be sold globally or have its industry be restricted within American borders to suit cultural interests. This is honestly an apples and oranges comparison between two industries. It's not about godhood, it's about general recognition of the fandom that helped shape the industry on equal terms to that of CN viewers and fansubbers. I raise the issue because, anecdotally speaking, in nearly every discussion I've seen about fan impact to the industry, fansubbers and CN viewers are being given credit while the 20th century patrons who simply bought anime in their local hobby store are being disregarded or just given a passing mention. It gives off the impression that the generation is irrelevant because of the stigma associated with anime and the pricing policies at the time. They're not. And for the record, "probably not" is practically a euphemism for "never". Last edited by KabaKabaFruit on Fri Dec 07, 2018 9:07 pm; edited 2 times in total |

I also hope we would get to see a stream of this conference panel or at least an audio recording of it. I always enjoyed listening to the industry guests on ANNCast and I hope we'll get another industry guest episode sometime soon since it seems like it's been awhile since we had one. I'm also glad to see even though Charlene has moved onto working for Capcom that she's still very much involved in supporting anime fans at industry events like this. I still appreciate all the hard work she did at Viz for Sailor Moon fans.
