The CG stuff aside from episode 1, this is a good show so far imo. I really wish it got a 24 episode adaptation rather than a 1-cour though but it's better than nothing. The character chemistry between Sugimoto and Aspira has been really entertaining.

It breaks my heart to see the adaptation of such a great and thoughtful adventure manga featuring a long-ignored and mistreated group of indigenous people being dragged down by bad CGI and stiff off-model animation. Still it hasn't hit Berserk 2016/17 levels yet and the writing and characters still shine through so one can still hope for improvement on the visual front for another few weeks or least try to enjoy the anime in spite of it.

The animation isn't anything fantastic but I do feel like you're making it out to be a bit worse than it is, like if you're looking for A+ its a B+ at best but you gave it a C, then again I never read the manga so it may actually be a lot worse than its source. (That CG bear was terrible tho, no defending that.)
Other than that I'm really enjoying the mystery of the plot and especially the chemistry between the two leads. This is the show I'm looking forward to most after MHA.

I was figuring the CG bear was maybe a well intentioned special effects idea that just didn't work at all, but then the wolf was just...regular bad CG.
It put me off hard enough that I'm considering waiting to watch this or maybe just reading the manga after all. Although I was also a bit taken aback by the forceful exposition stuffing and quick, shallow, coincidental way our main characters decide to go on a journey together in the first episode...I mean, whatever, it only matters so much if what it sets up is all good anyway.

The animation does threaten to ruin this otherwise good adaptation. Off model characters, stiff animation are diminishing the quality of this production. I’m not surprised though. When I saw that Geno Studio would be handling the animation I assumed as much. Animators are over-worked and placed on crazy time constraints so I don’t blame them but this studio has always struggled to deliver consistent animation quality.

Same, really enjoyed episode 1 a ton. I agree, I wish it got a longer season to get started. I actually thought the regular animation was pretty good most of the ep and really like the art style. The story, mystery, and character interactions with the leads have this as the new show I feel like I'm going to be anxiously waiting each week for the next ep to drop if it stays as addictive and suspenseful as I expect as things keep getting bigger.

I have had this manga on my "will get around to reading it eventually" list for years, along with dozens of others. Glad this anime was made as I am really enjoying it so far, really has the epic adventure vibe. Also glad I held off on the manga as anime's are never as fun to enjoy after already knowing what's going to happen, and inevitably being disappointed at every minor change or scene not being as perfect as it was in my mind. looking forward to this.

Geno Studio can't even handle 12 episodes with the way the art & animation has been, so 24 was never going to happen. From the looks of things, they're already speeding up the pacing faster than needed as well. Episode 2 adapted 5 chapters, which ended up being one too many.
Honestly, this series deserved a more accomplished studio. Geno does get a few things right, such as backgrounds and music, but it's just not enough imo. Obviously the characters and premise are also great, but that's thanks to the manga.

I know this studio is very recent. They were formed from the bankrupted manglobe. They've only made 3 anime. The movie genocidal organ (which was fruggin amazing) kokkoku, and now golden kamuy. All 3 of them have animation issues. They've gotten worse with each anime. I can tell these guys have a huge love for the stories they adapt, as they adapt them incredibly well, but either due to budget or newbie talent, there animation is messy. Here's hoping these guys won't go bankrupt to. Ugh.

I love the manga and I’m happy that they’re adapting the story faithfully. Alas and as mentioned, the art and animation are subpar.
It’s a source of eternal frustration for me that so many shows with stories I care little for get amazing production values and viceversa. I would have loved to see KyoAni do Golden Kamuy with Violet Evergarden budget

There's definitely a lot of room for character improvement ...i kinda get his motivation, but she's following this complete and no-at-all shady stranger why exactly? Because it might eventually lead her to her father's killer? How old is she supposed to be anyhow? Their teaming up just happened way too conveniently for my taste...
Also the humor didn't really mesh too well with the serious parts for me. Still, the story is intriguing and i generally like historical fiction, so i'm looking forward to how it will develop.

I'm kinda worried that most of the people in the anime community will make the equation "GK anime sucks, ergo the manga sucks as well"... I've liked it so far on general level and the animation doesn't bother me(the CG did. But I suppose everyone got goosebumps from that freakshow)
But as a huge fan of the manga, I honestly hope that the vast majority that watches it will be slightly disappointed in the anime's pacing and THEN move on to the manga, as it will always be the best version, unless somehow the anime magically repairs itself.
but about the humor..... yeah..... it's kinda weird. But wait until it gets to the point where several big men suddenly get the idea to sumo wrestle naked...for reasons...... Also, in the later chapters there's some movie references to Scarface and Silence of the Lambs and such.....

Don’t forget the animal lover. You can safely assume that will never get animated

I’m really enjoying this series so far. The main characters are very engaging and have a solid chemistry with each other as well as some humorous moments together. The story is very intriguing and it’ll be interesting to see where it go. Animation could improve, but right now it’s tolerable enough to still have a very enjoyable time with it. This is quite an interesting show to follow this season on Mondays and I’ll be happy to stick with it to the end.

I don't know about everyone else but I loved the first two episodes so much that I bought the first volume of the manga (I'll probably end up buying the rest at a later point). Yeah I'll agree that the animation (especially for the first half of episode 2) has had many problems so far. However, the setting is great, the story is intriguing and I love the characters so far. I actually laughed a lot during the "Oh Shit we gotta get warm" scene. So far Golden Kamuy is my second favorite show this season, with Tada-kun being my number 1.
