Things I already like about this adaptation:

1. Right out of the gate, they brought the original main theme back. That automatically makes it better than the manga.
2. The pacing is only slightly brisker so far. The studio isn't restricting themselves to two chapters per episode, as the majority of the series has been doing as a rough average, but pulling material from other chapters as well. For instance, that last scene with Natsu in the first part came from the middle of the chapter after Natsu got stomped in the face. And looking at the next preview, we're gonna get a three-chapter episode next week.
3. Characters and scenes are getting foreshadowed early, especially spoiler[Anna] (voiced by Aya Endo, a.k.a. Phoenix Priestess's Eclair!), who practically came out of nowhere in the manga. If they play their cards right, the anime could fill up some of the plot holes that kept piling up, making for a (slightly) stronger story and better viewing experience for the anime-only viewers, and giving things we manga readers can appreciate.

Also, Bluenote is the name of the wizard, not the guild the wizard came from.

Hmm.. it seems a bit "off" too me. The comic timing on several gags fell flat in my ears. Kinda like when two people try and tell a joke by reading directly from a script. Or like they went through the motion of telling the joke because it was in the manga, but didn't even try to make it funny.

I was pretty apprehensive with this one considering how stale the Fairy Tail formula was getting near the end of the previous season, but honestly these first couple of episodes are leaving me pretty optimistic. I'm getting the good old-school FT vibe at the moment and I think watching Natsu and Lucy journeying around to get the gang back together should be a lot of fun. And fair play already, given what happened on Tenrou Island watching Natsu stomp Bluenote like he was small-fry was quite satisfying.

That part is pretty cool when you consider that at the time, Bluenote was able to take on Gildaarts, who was strong enough to force Natsu to forfeit. It's sort of a reverse of where he was after the previous time skip when he went from potentially S-ranked to barely being able to beat one of the guild's weaker members.

and considering that blue note stinger don't take orders from anyone excluding hades/prect , it more or less shows how much of a monster that guy was while he was still alive. though why is he still here is the real 64 dollar question.

however it will more or less be taken a back seat on whether or not gray becomes a demon himself due to the side effect of his demon slaying magic. kinda ironic isn't it?

it's strongly implied that he and Levy were working together on this at Erza's behest

That's interesting, I've never seen anyone come to that conclusion before. I mean, if Levy's a Council agent working behind the Council's back for some other top-secret mission not even her commanding officer would know about, she'd get in a ton of trouble, wouldn't she? (*glances at Mest*) Besides, the revelation that Levy was the Council spy instead of Gray was meant to deter readers/viewers from the possibility that Gray was just pretending.

spoiler[And I'll just say it here, Levy was actually worried Gray might have fallen to the dark side; no alliance whatsoever, for reasons that the next episode will explain.]

Glad to get more Fairy Tail.

Maybe I need to go back and watch previous episodes, but the animation in the new ones feels super janky. You'd think that for a popular series they'd have a better budget.

Honestly I think Wendy improved drastically more then Lucy in magic power considering she can activate Dragon Force at will, a form that that is the equivalent to Super Saiyan in the Fairy Tail world and has always been hyped up making her probably the most impressive in terms of total growth among the main characters. Also Erza herself doesn't really "need" a powerup in my opinion because she's still more powerful then either Gray or Natsu individually and her feats constantly have proven this. I really loved this episode even if the animation wasn't as nice as previous weeks, just seeing the cast back together again was awesome.

I'm starting to become a little worried about the pacing though since we've now been adapting 3 chapters per episode for the last three episodes but the standard for FT episodes is usually 2 chapters (Like the first two episodes of this season). We're definitely not starting the final arc this cour based on the opening theme but we're going to run out of chapters from this arc before hitting 12-13 episodes so I wonder exactly what they're going to fill those remaining episodes with? Filler? Guess I'll have to hope they know what they're doing.

The first 4 episodes of the 2018 anime were pretty high quality looking episodes. This is the first one that dipped in quality but that's not really something to be worried about when this is going to be more then 50 episodes so they have to spread their resources.

Have we heard how many episodes it will be? Conceivably, they are trying to make sure that they get through everything, and the number of episodes greenlit required faster pacing.

There have only been rumors. Before the anime aired, there were only 126 chapters left, so people pegged the anime at being around 63 episodes because adapting two chapters per episode is par the course. But now that we're going through several three-chapter episodes, the rumor of 51 episodes seems likely.

Sorry, I meant to get back to you sooner; life happened. -_-

Anyway, I agree - Wendy's more impressive overall in terms of what she can do now. She's one of the major butt-kickers in the guild in general, and invaluable even when she wasn't as powerful. But I think Lucy gets the short end of the stick a lot - she's less powerful and gets written off as the boobs of the operation. So for her a major power-up looks less major, but is still a major accomplishment, maybe more so than someone who had more impressive power to draw from initially. Granted, Lucy's power as a character is in how she relates to people, but I think that leads to her being underestimated as a wizard as well.

I sometimes wonder whether Mashima is accurately conveying the extent to which Lucy's Celestial Spirit magic (and the sheer variety of things she can do with so many Gold Keys) are considered powerful in-universe... I frequently get the sense that only "foolish" characters consider her a pushover.

Yeah I really love that Wendy has come so far. It's so awesome to see her as one of the primary butt-kickers like Princess_Irene said. I absolutely loved her battle where she first did it toward the end of last season.

Yeah, I think the first several eps have looked rather good. Also, I'm enjoying that so far, for the most part, the hazy filter has been toned down this season compared to my memories of FT2014.

This was a fun episode! I'm surprised by how fast this adaptation is moving, I guess 3 chapters a episode is the new standard now since the manga is already finished but I think I'm fine with this since I know eventually the sequel series (FT 100 Years Quest) will be adapted so it's not like we'll run out of material anytime soon. It was so fun seeing this section with Team Natsu going to the island animated finally, and I really got a huge laugh out of seeing Mest's crush on Wendy get brought back literally out of nowhere. I can understand how he feels a bit, she really is an angel.

Even though we're moving at such a fast pace I really hope some of the fights in this arc get extensions or else many of them will end within a single episode if 3 chapters are being adapted in a single episode.
