Well, new character designs looks completely bland. But hey, they at least given the option for the fans who want Urushihara art, if the classic means "classic" looks and not literally how it was looked at NES game.

One thing that attracted me in the Growlancer game series, also illustrated by Urushihara, was the art, and I assume the earlier versions of Langrisser had similar art and feeling. On the other hand...

...those designs look generic as hell.

I love the Langrisser game series to bits. Hell, this plus Sakura Wars were the big reasons to own a Sega Saturn back in the day.

But yeah, the new character designs? Well...they're okay but really, how can anyone top Urushihara? I mean, his art just can't be beat!

I'm still finding it fishy that Urushihara brushed off on returning to the series just so he can publish more ero art books. Maybe Urushihara's commission was too astronomical for Masaya?

I'm actually not very familiar with Langrisser so I'm excited for this. I hope it makes it's way to the West in some capacity. My extent with the series has been dabbling with ROMs in the past and watching plays on YouTube.

Urushihara still does a lot of monthly works for Tenma and similar. I'd surmise it possibly not so much as completely brushing off due to astronomical cost but more that he's already got a steady stream of work and deadlines.

I'm a big Urushihara fan also but honestly I'm not surprised that there would be some sort of massive character design style update considering this is for a modern console. I'm certain most of old assets for Langrisser don't compute well to HD, but it is nice to see an option retained to go back to Urushihara. It was a bit easier when say Growlanser IV came to the PSP because most of the original GL IV assets translated well to the PSP format. There wasn't a lot that had to be changed or updated sans the new characters.
