The previous seasons only covered 4 volumes each, and this one is going to cover 9?

I wonder how this “event” will be distributed. I doubt it’ll come to theaters as it’s just 50 minutes long, but why these specific countries? Is Aniplex of America not getting involved?

You never know. AoT’s premiere this season was in theaters and that was just a normal length episode, though they paired it with the compilation film of the second season. Likewise, Ancient Magus Bride’s first three episodes, once you cut the OP and ED for each episode, isn’t much longer than this, and I saw that in theaters too - again, paired with another thing, although that time it was something unrelated to AMB. They could put SAO’s premiere in theaters. They just need something to pair it with. Though the premiere event itself will likely be at a convention, as with the aforementioned AoT and AMB. |

They could probably pair it up with an encore screening of the Ordinal Scale movie.

It looks like Australia will be showing it in Melbourne at least: https://www.animefestival.com.au/events/sword-art-online-alicization-world-premiere/

Yeah. The AoT compilation film is about the same length as Ordinal Scale, though given that the SAO premiere will be longer, that’ll make the combined run time that much longer, about three hours in total. |

Alicization has volumes that last for only like one or two chapters, maybe that has something to do with the massive volume coverage but I am not entirely sure. |

Word count and whatnot wise, Alicization is what came before and then a volume or two extra. And they did they they were adapting it all, so get ready. |

Wakanim is streaming it in Russia. They already announced a theatrical screening in Moscow.
Considering it's half owned by Aniplex, nothing strange. Last edited by Nachtwandler on Sat Aug 11, 2018 9:09 am; edited 1 time in total |

A one-hour premier is the correct move for the adaptation, as this story arc requires a lot more set-up than the previous one did.
And yeah, I'm expecting something along the lines of what they did with AMB. |

Actually it's just the first episode and a half hour documentary about the production studio. |
