The next stage of "think about the children" is upon us! In the past they became violent, then sexist and now suicidal. Stay tuned, in the next 5 years it is also expected to cause stomach acid and milk intolerance.

If a full paged warning at the beginning did not convey enough message to the guy, I wonder what else will.
" Initially the characters are cute female figures, which would appeal to youngsters "
Tht's the point tht makes this game fun and stand out. how stupid as to take tht as a reason.

I would like to say that I am surprised that a city council would issue a warning about Doki Doki Literature Club but very little surprises me anymore. Also what exactly do they expect to happen by having teachers give a lecture to students about avoiding a particular video game? It looks to me like the city council has just provided free advertising for that game.

So.

In reading the article, we can find that "the coroner contacted local authorities". The coroner, in England, is the authority responsible for investigating and reporting on suspicious deaths: if somebody dies it's their actual legal responsibility and obligation to tell people how so that future similar deaths can be prevented. The article doesn't explain this for the same reason it doesn't explain that a "child" is a "young" "human" who can "die" but that this is unusual or regarded as undesireable.

[The newspaper report doesn't say the kid killed himself, but it's normal not to put that in the text of british-tradition newspaper reports. Again, the audience is aware of this and can draw the reasonable implications]

So. The officer responsible for investigating unusual deaths is investigating an unusual death, of a child, and writes to all the "local authorities" in the country regarding a circumstance that they think might be linked to the death. And why did the coroner write to the local authorities?

Because local authorities run education in england.

So. A kid plays a suicide-themed game and kills themselves, and the government official responsible for investigating inter-alia suicides contacts the authorities responsible for inter-alia running the education system, and the education authorities decide to talk to the kids about it, and this surprises you?

I know a few teachers and they get warnings like this all the time, in a lot of cases they simply do not have sufficient time or funds to do much else other than log it on a spreadsheet and keep an eye out for it. If the government or national teachers union gets involved that will be where we hear something about a ban.

This is reasonably unlikely but given the big issue with knives at the moment (my local primary school got evacuated a few weeks ago because an 8 year old brought a knife in, thinking it was cool and showed others), then video games may well become a scapegoat.

This country loves a scapegoat rather than, you know, fixing a problem.
