I think I've finally become Principal Skinner because no matter how hard I try I can't wrap my head around this trend.

There's not really anything complicated about it; it's basically Let's Play meets moe anime characters. Although, I can't claim to understand the appeal of the awful-sounding voice modulation that most of them use. To my knowledge, Kizuna Ai is the only one with a human voice actor.

I love Kizuna Ai & Kaguya Luna, others I don't care about.
Kizuna Ai & Kaguya Luna are legit funny and entertaining to watch,
once you understand their personalities.

It's pretty simple. Otaku have taken one big step towards their dream of a world where they never have to interact with a woman again.

I don't know, looks like some of the people/companies involved don't really get this virtual YouTuber thing either. Like, doesn't signing with an agency, going on television etc. defeat the entire point of being a YouTuber (virtual or otherwise), i.e. not being shackled by traditional media?

The idea that YouTube is unshackled by traditional media is sure a cute marketing strategy, but in Japan even the voice actresses in some fan-made projects are still handled through agencies. Business is business.

I'm not big into Virtual YouTuber but it basically sounds like an extension of the Hatsune Miku craze which most fans don't seem to have a problem accepting anymore.

I subbed to Kizuna AI when there was only 60 000 subs. My how she has grown. Kuguya Luna and Akari Mirai are also both really good. Luna also managed to pull off Kizuna's voice pretty well when they swapped and Akari is by far the best gamer of the bunch (did you see her have a go at "getting over it"? She was a monster)!

I really really want to see Kizuna Ai & Kaguya Luna side by side collaboration...
Their conversation, interaction with each other will be hysterical.
They are so different yet in a same wavelength. Mirai Akari was no match for
Kaguya Luna's eccentric but random personality.. Kizuna Ai could definitely keep
up with Luna, and probably make her feel uncomfortable with her occasional
yuri behavior.
