I've been looking forward to English yaoi games for years, but the fact they chose such a lousy game (the art is awful in my opinion, and the story is too dark and cruel to attract most yaoi fans, since people seem to prefer the fluffy cute stuff) is upsetting. Even as desparate as I am for an English yaoi game, it's not enough to make me buy such a lousy title.

Even worse is that their next project is done by the same artist. Ugh.

Every single currently-being-translated yaoi title is dark and sappy and has terrible artwork. Looking forward to this changing.

Yeah, pretty much... Shocked I'm quite speechless, considering the number of fluffy highschool romance or fantasy yaoi games there seem to be, they went and picked the shota prison-rape one? That's reeeeeally going to help improve the name of yaoi...

Hey, there are plenty of fans who like this stuff! I'd be upset if they chose some lovey-dovey fantasy type thing. Langmaor is cool with me.

Actually, I'm all for the setting, but I don't like the whole shota thing. I've played the next game they're releasing, Zettai Fukujuu Meirei, and it's more... normal than Enzai (which I haven't played, so judging on descriptions). It tries its best to look devious and kinky, but just that it doesn't feature any shota (except for one story) probably makes it appeal to even more people. Plus, I've heard it's humerous.

And people wonder why there's no market for non-H dating sims and visual novels. Sad

I agree with novem here; not everybody hates Enzai! I absolutely adore it, because it's just so damn awful that it's great. It's like the Plan 9 from Outer Space of yaoi.

Shocked

If this warrants an Ed Wood comparison, then it's certainly worth looking into... for the wrong reasons, of course. Like going to see an Uwe Boll movie.

Just because I'm picky about this, the article got the definition of yaoi wrong. Yaoi means "no climax, no punch line, no meaning" and is basically animated gay porn. Shounen-ai on the other hand means boys' love in English and focuses more on the relationship side of a homosexual couple than the sex. It's interesting to see a yaoi game being released in the U.S. I didn't even know there was a market for erotic video games in the U.S. until this announcement was made. I wonder how long it'll take for American parents to start complaining about these games. Does this mean the Sukisho game can finally come over to the U.S.? I think it might have a chance of being popular over here because it already has an established fanbase with the anime already being released on DVD. Too bad I probably won't get to play any of these games until I can move out on my own.

However, another meaning of yaoi here in America can also refer to anything that *has* sex in it, and shonen-ai refering to anything without it. So in this case, when Enzai is refered to "the first yaoi game in English," it's essentially "the first video game in English with man-sex in it." There's another game being translated, Animundi, I think it's called (I can't quite remember), that's also calling itself the first yaoi game in English, but the meaning in that case refers to "the first video game in english with man-man relationships."

". . . and next on Today's Sign that the Gaming Apocalypse Draws Near,"

Shocked WOW. I'm sorry but I take the advice heard on many a basketball court; Don't hate the player, hate the game. I mean damn what's next, Cross Channel (actually this makes CC look like The Bible Game)? Hmmm . . . I guess I have no comment but to research it further.

I'd kill to have some of the dating games like Harukanaru brought over, but I doubt it'll ever happen. I wish they'd realize there IS a market for fluffier stuff (even if it's fluffy yaoi I'd accept it even though I'm not into yaoi) and I also wish that if a company risked it, fans would support it. I'm not hopeful about either, though.

My thoughts exactly. Yaoi games can be great, too, but I prefer a well-made fluff game. Which is exactly why when ANN posted a link to a game publisher's new survey, I quickly recommended Harukanaru and Angelique to them. I hope the survey will show lots of support for those series. They're perfect for American Fruits Basket-loving audiences. Very Happy And since it's a girl/boy game, I know several boys who enjoy them, too.

I hope someone licenses the Harukanaru TV series, too. Angelique is becoming a TV anime this year, as well... I'm excited!
