Interesting to listen to the differences in Holland's voice in this version if he's voiced by Morikawa instead. Wonder if these movies will get picked up over here by Funimation.

--------------------------------------- I saw the world premiere at Otakon. The Summer of Love portion was amazing imo, and very well done in terms of production. The rest of the film.... Although with regard to this
They seemed to have accomplished this as far as I could tell. Or if they didn't it paled in comparison to other issues. The next movie looks good, provided a significant issue from this movie doesn't continue. |

Can you please elaborate a bit about the other issues? Or did you mean the "usual" issues most compilation films have? |

The fact that Dai Sato is involved with this project makes me far more hopeful than anything else that's come out since the original series. I'm not sure how necessary most of this movie will wind up being, but I'm definitely interested in seeing the original Summer of Love finally portrayed.

It moved back and forth in the timeline several times after the Summer of Love section. They always put a time stamp on it - 8 hours ago, 22 days ago, etc., along with Play Back or Play Forward - but if you hadn't seen the original it would be easy to be confused. All that jumping around broke the momentum of the film a few times, and frankly there didn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to it. After a few times, each instance of the words Play Back appearing on the screen was met with horror and derision from the audience. It didn't need to be strictly chronological, but it bounced around way more than would be desirable. |

Why is every E7 follow-up / sequel / manga / video game / remake doomed to fall so short of the original series? I guess the creators had one shot in them :/ |

@jenthehen Well the Summer of Love portion was very well done, and definitely made the movie as a whole worth watching to me, and as long as they don't mess around with the timeline much, the second movie should be better than the present day portion of the first film. I'd want to see at least the second film before coming to any conclusions about the trilogy as a whole.

Thank you for the response. If I think about it, going with a back and forth narrative does sound like something director Dai Sato would choose. Around how many episodes of the original TV series does the first movie cover? Has Anemone made an appearance? IIRC, this new trilogy supposedly will have a different ending right? |

1. It covers at least part of 7 episodes, specificallyspoiler[1, 19, 20, 22, 23, 24, and 25 - focusing mostly on 22-24 and Renton's relationship with Ray and Charles.] It's not really a good substitute for the original series. 2. (spoilers just in case) spoiler[No Anemone does not appear in this film. However it looks like she will appear in the next film and will be prominently featured. In the Q&A panel, the director said the working title of the first film was Renton Seven and the working codename for the second film is Anemone Seven.] |

Yeah. That was the best news. Also, all of the screenshots look gorgeous.
Cool. Can't wait to see it! Hopefully we'll see a US blu-ray not too late into 2018 since the rights are already set up. If they tell us in advance that they plan to do it I'll probably tough out the wait until the dubbed version if Funi can work with Bang Zoom to get back most of the original voice cast since I'm especially attached to these characters that way having watched the series multiple times that way. Thanks for the link to interview! Kind of glad I read the second spoiler and the director's comment in the interview spoiler[that Anemone won't be showing up until movie 2 so that I'm not distracted waiting for it when it's not going to happen and that her stuff will have a big role in the second movie]. |
