I didn't expect to see another SS manga licensed on the states o.o, hopefully it does well.

So is it safe to say this is a direct all-girl counterpart of the original Saint Seiya in terms of story progression and characters?

I haven't read it but IIRC it seems like the original saints appear so it's not a "what if" story with saints being girls if that's what you were asking.

@Lizzie:
I wouldn't be surprised if Seven Seas licenses Lost Canvas if this does well enough.
Lost Canvas is IMO the best Saint Seiya manga, I would say it's even better than the original, or at the very least on the same level and the art is way better.

Sooner or later, the anime will be licensed with a new dub if this does well

This is a pleasant surprise. Always glad to have more Saint Seiya material in the US.

That'll happen the day a leprechaun pops out of my captain's quarters. The OG manga did not sell well, in terms of physical copies and digital. The movies sold poorly here, the recent subs-only release of the first arc of the OG anime and of the totality of the Lost Canvas anime sold so badly, the companies that did both stated they would never again license Saint Seiya works.
I love SS but it doesn't sell well here. I'd kill for Lost Canvas to have it's manga released in the US but it'll never happen.

If you're referring to Lost Canvas, the anime was a confirmed flop here so I don't see anyone else taking a risk with relicensing and dubbing it, especially when it's close to 10 years old now and also incomplete due to flopping in Japan as well.
As for Saintia Sho, I'm glad for the manga and do plan to buy but like original Devilman, it looks more like they're cashing in on the new Toei anime that was announced and I'm not so sure this one will do as well as Devilman might and as for the anime, nobody else will touch the Saint Seiya property anymore home video-wise so at this point, we can only hope that Crunchyroll gets the full license like they did with KADO and FUNi does the rest from there.

I assume this is some kind of stock text, because I have stumbled upon ti a few times and it's not very accurate; the manga starts right from the start of the regular saint seiya manga , and progresses in a similar but paralel timeline; it's a fun manga showing what's happening on the side of the nromal saint seiya plot, while filling some plot holes here and there so the saint seiya universe, overall, makes more sense.

While it is not Masami Kurumada-authored, at least more Kurumada-related (or inspired) manga is being licensed here. Had "Knights of the Zodiac" been licensed a few years before 2003, then maybe it might have done better here.

Hopefully it's a legitimate spinoff and be about those girls and their exploits somewhat similar to say Aria AA or even Railgun.
