The real question is, if that version is better than chinese DVD rip (480p)?
No one will stop pirates. No one.

I suspect people will come out "appalled" over this on this comment section but the only people who've actually seen the movie likely pirated it themselves. Waiting to watch it in theaters personally but just wanted to get in before the hypocrites.

"According to police, the file had a high video quality, and had Chinese and English subtitles."
Haha, bullshit. I bet they just mean it wasn't a camrip.
"Police also stated that the suspect admitted to the charges by saying he used a file-sharing software to download the files and then distribute them."
Yeah, he wasn't even the one who uploaded it, just downloaded and reshared.

I feel like it's always old people who get arrested for this. Is that wrong?

90% of these "Japan arrests illegal uploader" stories involve a probably-ancient file-sharing program called "Share," and this is no exception. Apparently it's very insecure, and most younger, tech-savvier people know better than to use it.
It's kind of funny to see this alongside the ongoing series of "Your Name reaches new milestone in mind-boggling profits" articles... anti-piracy of industrial-sized productions always feels like trawling for fish with a massive net, and shredding the ones that escape the net with a machine gun. But I guess this is the nature of capitalism.

because they use share instead of perfect dark.

Get him! Take him down! What an awful thing to do! Deserves to be arrested!
(Please save the footage and distribute it online so someone can sub it until an English-subbed theatrical release is confirmed)

Did you read the article (or notice the hardly-obscure pirated version circulating)? It was English-subtitled.

Did you read any comments on the quality of the sub in question, in articles or from comment threads of the rip itself? Not to mention it's hardsubs. Hardsubbed with BOTH English and Chinese...
If someone makes a proper translation now it'll be ready when an acceptable copy of it arrives...

No, and that doesn't relate to the question of whether or not an English-subtitled version of the movie exists, which it does. Kamui97's comment was "save the footage and distribute it online", so someone "can sub it" (presumably in English), all of which has already happened. That's what I was responding to. The quality of the ripped version doesn't bother me at all, not least because I'll be watching the movie in cinemas shortly anyway.
