Watching Mazingers, Grendizer, and Getter Robo on BD is too tempting to resist but since i own the DVD set already i'll wait for the reviews for this one before replacing them with the BD set. But since the movies were released in theaters i think that they will look good on BD and without black-bars or window-boxing if i am not mistaken.
I was expecting some Mazinger stuffs to pop up this year since it's the series 40th anniversary. I would like to see the Mazinkaizer OVAs (2001-2003) also get a BD treatment. Now can we have Shin Mazinger Season 2 please ! |

Many anime movies used the cheaper 35 millimeter format, so you better double check, but if the DVDs aren't widescreen I would bet the BD aren't either. |

35mm is the premium format. It was THE highest quality standard commonly used for anime (or any other movies/TV) in the analog era. Nothing cheap about it. But you're right in that many films of that era were not technically made in widescreen. Whether they're intended to be shown in widescreen or not, and therefore what format will appear on the BD, is something of an open question. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_matte) |
