Just bought the ADV release of the New Fist of the North Star OVA Episode 1, and triggered my revival of Fist of the North Star. End up went to a Japanese book store the next day and bought the whole Japanese manga set, reliving my younger days when I first read it more than a decade ago.

The DVD is very pricey (MSRP $29.95!!! luckily I find it quite a bit cheaper) for just a 55 min episode, but the show I think was impressive. Pretty good animation in fights (though some less important scenes suffers choppy frame rate), and the whole film looks very pretty, detailed, and high budget (a first in any Fist of the North Star anime). It also has a lot of CG mixed in it. The cell shaded vehicles looked great, but the 3D environment shots like city pans looked a little out of place). But still pretty cool. Good music too. However, it made me longed for more quality action & longer fights in the coming 2 episodes. Kenshiro seemed too badass for anybody to even touch him in this 1st episode, and the fights are short & scarse. More time is devoted to storytelling, so that people who are not so familiar with the series would get a good grasp of the background.

Does any of you know any info on the upcoming 2 episodes of this OVA? Like when will ADV release them, and how good the story progress without spoiling the story details for us? Will there be more & better fights? Tried to find more info on it online, but couldn't find much. Don't even know if they are done releasing this 3 episode OVA in Japan.

Had always liked Fist of the North Star manga way back for its awesome art style, daring portray of violence, and very cool characters. But the anime doesn't seem to measure up very well, probably due to low budget and being too old. Seeing this new and very good looking OVA got me excited all over again. Very Happy

Fist of the North Star brings back pleasent memories of me as a ten year old boy watching people's heads explode. I havn't watched any of it recently, but I read some of the manga. I thought it was pretty good, but it didn't hook me like Buronson's other manga, Strain and Sanctuary.

Watched it when it first hit the net. The over-the-top nature of the show was amusing but I would never consider buying something this dumb.
