ef - a tale of melodies

The OP sequence is now available to be downloaded at their website!

http://www.ef-melo.com/special.html

Whoa, this one is mostly black and white, and it looks like this series will deal with two couples: Mizuki and Shuuichi and Yuuko and Yuu. Quite of bit of symbolic imagery that may foreshadow future events, and it's interesting there's quite a bit of German writing in the background. For some reason the OP song sounded liked a remixed version of something else I've heard before, but I can't out my finger onto it.

Man, I can't wait for episode 1! Cool

Thanks for the link, I like the OP very much animation-wise - unfortunately, my audio doesn't work at the moment, so I can't say anything about the song Very Happy
The OP has German in correct grammar. I'm so happy to see that! I remember the first ef even had a great English OP sung by a Japanese, so that has also been a first for me in anime.
When I watched the first ef, I had a little trouble with the first 2-3 episodes, and now I can appreciate it even more, I hope.

I totally trust the staff to not let this fall into the sequel trap. I have to,

PS: Such chaotic posts are what you get for writing before going to bed...

Whoa!!!

I had no idea at all that there would be another Ef series... Wow, this is news to me. Oh man, am i excited... well that's a turn around, i was thinkin' that this season didn't' seem so great, and what someone said on another thread, i think PantsGoblin, said something about like how this season didn't' have as much ... i was agreein' with him, but how exciting.

The OP yes... the animation was great i think, and the song was well... interesting. It looks as though it'll be just as great as the last Ef... oh man... well that's somethin' to look forward too.

Thanks for the link...

Something besides "Euphoric Field", I assume?
This one's called "Ebullient Future"? Damn, busting out the big English words, are they?

I'm giddy with anticipation.

The OP doesn't blow me away like Euphoric Field did, but its still a very, very nice OP.

The wait for this series is killing me. It's easily my most anticipated series of the season aside from maybe Clannad. I've been pumping myself up for the last few days by looping YouTube videos of the game openings and playing Euphoric Field in WinAmp.

Mizuki is awesome. She even said Kuze shouldn't sell off all the cosplay costumes he keeps. It looked like Mizuki put on two outfits, the first one being maybe Lucky Star and the second Hidamari Sketch. Speaking of Sketch, lack of subs makes me sad.

Back to ef. Nagi looks a bit like Kei, I think. Oh, she's Hiro's mom. Hm, didn't realize she's who they were talking about when they mentioned Hirono.

My memory of tale of memories is kind of sketchy so I was wondering if anyone could clear these up for me:

1) spoiler[Who is Mizuki anyway? Was she previously revealed to be Renji's cousin? Wasn't she just some random unimportant girl on the Hirono/Kei/Miyako side of the story in the first season, or am I getting her mixed up with somebody else?]
2) spoiler[Renji tells Mizuki that they're in Australia. I don't get that, at all...]
3) spoiler[Were Kuze and Himura already revealed to have known each other? Or is this something new you learn this season?]
4) spoiler[At what point of the story does Season 2 start? Does it take place right after all the events of season 1, or somewhere in the middle of them?]

Overall, a pretty good first episode, although I have absolutely no idea where it's going to go from here on out. Which is good, I like mystery.

1) spoiler[She was just a friend of Kei's we saw a couple of times, her being related to Renji was never mentioned. (And it wasn't apparent that she had a crush on her, either).]
2) It's a joke. It took me a little while for me to realize that, too.
3) I think we may have seen them together once in the previous series, but I could be imagining that.
4) (Spoiler tag may spoil the ending of the first series) The parts with Yuu and others in highschool are clearly well before the events of memories, while the scenes where they are adults occur spoiler[after. We know this because of the reference to Chihiro and Renji being a couple and Renji not denying it, which he would have done prior to the ending of memories.]

spoiler[Kuze walked Chihiro home one time so he could talk to Himura. There was plenty of evidence in season 1 that they had known each other for a long time.]

Keep in mind that the 4 stories told over the two seasons feature in the visual novels ef ~ a fairy tale of the two ~ and ef ~ the latter tale ~ (at least I think those are the names). In the first season, only one of the stories happened in the first game while the other is in the second; they changed the order around a bit in the anime series; seemingly to keep things chronological. But it's not like they're pulling a second season out of their bums.

EDIT: with regards to the episode itself.. I was somewhat disappointed overall. Take for example the amount of fanservice in both the OP and episode... I mean throwing in Hirono-chan naked there didn't seem to serve any real purpose. That and I thought the dialogue was super ambiguous, and they started the series far too dramatically.. I don't know, I'm probably just shooting it down because the first series was so brilliant, but still the episode didn't really meet my expectations. Everything seemed... overdone, and there wasn't really anything I felt that was new; that grabbed my attention as being different from the first season.

i just hope this season will answer one question i have about last season spoiler[ in the last part of the chihiro arc they show her minds eye breaking from its chains and the inner her finnaly breaking its bonds, i take it as her finnaly breaking free of the memory loss issue. but they never answer it completly at the end of last season. does she still have it, or did she break its hold on her?]

above all id love to find that out.

Some people need a bit of story to help assuage their guilt about the porn, which is all fine and good. But when that bit of story becomes the raison d'entre in its own right, assuming monumental, monstrous proportions, something has gone very wrong. The ero genre has lost its way; it's ridiculous. So would it be too much to ask for the creators of ef ~A Tale of Melodies~ and others of its ilk to get found and hurry up with the sex in subsequent episodes? If not, well, a least it will be good for chronic insomniacs; a few nights of this on their screen will definitely cure them.

I hate this part of her review of EF~ A Tale Of Melodies. True most eroge game are intended to be centered around fanservice, but by judging a series based on it's adaptation genre is being a hypocrite. She needs to watch EF A Tale of Memories before saying that EF ~A Tale of Melodies exist only to create a hentai series with a decent story. I just hope EF~ A Tale of Melodies prove miss casey's comment to be severely wrong and unjust. For real she needs to get her facts straight and back her opinion about eroge turn into anime is ridiculous, especially this series. Seriously.

I agree with you, but you should probably discuss this in the Preview Guide thread instead, and not here.

Sorry for the off-topic you guys... I posted it on the talkback thread.

Oh speaking of EF ~ A Tale of Melodies the first episode is definitely good. Though I don't have a clue what would happen on the latter part but it's really interesting especially Yuuko's story. Yuuko reminds me of Miyako. I also would like to know how old Mizuki chan is and Kuze for the sake of future pairing LOL. The series soundtrack is somewhat resembles the first series. Though I admit EF ~ A Tale of Memories tracks are better. But I still keep my hand cross for some good ending songs or alternate japanese opening.. The artistry is top notch just like the original. Hopefully the story would get awesome as well. I really love this series LOL. Can't wait for the next episode oh and I'm liking the violin instrument especially the one they played on the preview.
