Good point. but still, given that it's one of the most pirated (ha!) titles out there......the piracy argument is very hard to believe.

If we use the average price of manga, 500 yen, in Japan then apply that to the total sales from 2011. We can guess that OP's contribution would be around 19 billion yen, which is about 7% of the total comic sales in Japan.

That's the American industry, not Japanese. How you can mistake the two, which are vastly different, is beyond me.

I was going to say "in before people say the industry is dying due to a less than 1% loss in numbers", but it turns out they made more money than last year regardless.

Quote: | But the problem isn't just about fickle Americans — the Japanese manga market is hurting too. Sales of manga magazines, the traditional delivery medium for manga in Japan, peaked in 1995, and have been falling ever since. Graphic novel sales remained steady longer, but have also declined. |

Please don't use any of Gawker's sites as credible sources, they live entirely on sensationalist opinionated editorials. And the comments are even worse and clearly aimed at people who only watch Toonami/Adult Swim. Sankaku Complex probably offers more objectivity, or at least doesn't pretend to be anything more than it is.
