From RACS:
So it's another Japanese paranoia-thing. Shocking. Still, I left Funi a message that this is stupid and they should just delay the combo instead of stripping it. They delayed the Strike Witches 2 Combo for the same reasons, so I don't get why they're altering this one, especially the first season was just released last month as a combo, so having only a DVD copy of the second is dumb. A lot of people have already canceled their preorders, and I can't say I wouldn't do the same if I'd purchased it. EDIT: AH WTK beat me to it! |

It makes one question whether being in the same BD region as Japan is a blessing, or a curse.

I really wish we weren't the same region code as Japan. I was really looking forward to owning the second season on Blu-ray.

We'll find out as more anime comes out on BD in Taiwan since we're all in the same region. If R1 continues to get screwed, while Taiwan get's mostly a free pass (I can understand if certain extras aren't included, but delays and other things like that are different)...then something is up. |

Canceled my order.
It's a joke. Why release season 1 (SD upscale) in a DVD/BD combo and then season 2 (native HD) as DVD-only? Why not delay the release if it's a problem with the license holder? Who wants a DVD-only set when potentially this could get released as a combo in the future? And also, only taking $5 off the original cost? Haha! Jog on FUNi... jog on... |

I'm very tempted to cancel mine as well. The only thing is I want the limited edition box to match the first season... |

Honestly the lack of a BD won't stop me. I would have preferred a delay to keep the combo pack, but I'll still get this.
Also, who knew the BD was worth like $5 for the LE. Remove that, and the set is $5 cheaper!/Lame joke *Note, I don't consider the MSRP overpriced, but it is stupid to pay full MSRP IMO. |

Xenophobia has nothing to do with fears of reverse importation. The problem is not wanting their fellow Japanese to have the option of importing a cheaper BD before the license holder has sufficient time to sell their higher priced releases in the domestic market. |

They only added $5 on to normal DVD sets when they started to come out with DVD/BD combos (which is why they started to do them) in the first place. I understand why people are upset, but I'm sure if they would have simply delayed it, there would be a crowd much larger complaining. |

If Funi released their combo pack in March, it would have been 10 months since the last volume of Forte was released on BD in Japan. The sales of the show is pretty much done, and a later R1 BD still won't dissuade cheap Japanese buyers to import the US copy. Unless, Japan is getting a boxset of season 2 soon. Contrast this to Hidan no Aria where the final volume was released in December 21st 2011 and solicitations for the first three volumes on BD in TW has a release date of February 2012. Much closer. Same goes with Infinite Stratos (a highly popular show in Japan) - TW BDs being solicited for Feb 2012 when the last volume came out a few months before that (shorter than 10 months). Crazy rights holders...a closer to home example would be Sentai releasing Infinite Stratos in April with almost everything a mere four months after the last volume (OVA) was released in Japan. That's why, regarding "reverse importation fear," I wonder how much that argument will hold in the future as Taiwan releases more anime on blu-ray. Unless, the fear is only for reverse importation from R1 land or Funi is getting the short end of the stick all the time. |

It has nothing to do with xenophobia, and more has to do with making sure that the Japanese aren't able to import cheap anime. This hurts the Japanese anime fans wanting a cheap boxset, too. |

I don't know about contractual specifics or what would be considered a sufficient time for the Japanese license holder. My explanation was just to show the issue isn't about xenophobia. The RACS quote says that Funi says the license holders say they are leary about the release date of the BD, if you want to argue with that take it up with the license holders. |
