OH YEA..was G.I joe the original series anime?
i ask this because at the end of the shows they had little safty messages that always ended saying "AND KNOWING IS HALF THE BATTLE"
TRANSFORMERS which is anime had similar messages and said the same thing word 4 word...were both series made by the same people????

G.I. Joe was a purely American production, so it's not anime. (Even if I didn't know this for fact, it's not anime style and I seriously doubt that the Japanese would have ever made a series about "a real American hero.")
As for Betty Boob, do you mean Betty Boop? She was a purely American character that not only predates virtually all anime, but was probably quite influential on the earliest anime and manga creators in Japan (who are known to have drawn their stylistic inspirations from early American cartoons).

GI Joe wasn't an anime but it was animated by Toei.

Transformers is American too. Americans created it, Japanese animated it.
You're confusing it with the Robotech/Macross series, or later Transformers, which -were-, I believe, made by Japanese.
And it's Betty Boop. Betty Boob sounds like some B-list porno flick. And I believe Betty Boop has been around since the late 30's. Waaaaay before Anime came about. Unless you count the discovery of a Japanese animated film from the 1920s. But really, I don't think that counts :/

No Betty Boop wasn't inspired by anime. In actual fact it was the other way round like Key suggested. The big eyes which are a staple of many anime today were originally taken from characters such as Betty Boop. Take a look at Osamu Tezuka's character designs and you can see the extent of the similarities.

Well she is a bit saucy in Roger Rabbit.

I don't think I'v ever read that Tezuka admited to being influenced by Betty Boop. Another posible candidate is Popeye, but I've only heard he was influenced by Disney's character designs.

In an interview with Tezuka he admited that the first cartoon he drew was when he was real young, I think around 8, and it was popeye from a comic around the house.

Some guy who interviewed Miyazaki told me he was a fan of the Chuck Jones Bugs Bunny cartoons. I wonder if he'd still be a fan if he ever saw the propaganda films.

Oh hell. The propaganda films. I hope never.
Other than that, Chuck Jones was a great man. And his cartoons were great too. It's only natural that he was a fan. =D

Interesting, so we may have Popeye to partly thank for the modern anime character design. You know most people only know of the Popye cartoons. Most people don't realize it was a hugely popular comic before that. My grandfather used to read it and his cartoons sketches also resemble the Popeye art style.

I have this huge art book on old comic strips. Has lots of classics like Popeye, Krazy Kat and a couple of adventure serials. There definitally is a similarity between Popeye and Tezuka's art.
