Hello everyone
We're curious to see if anyone out there has some good ideas on how a person can break into the anime industry. We're big fans, and would like to take our excitement and dedication to a new level. I know that they make the anime over in Japan, but what about getting involved with some distributors such as ADV, Viz, Funimation, etc? What if you are interested in designing the posters, toys, and dvds for the various shows? Where's a good place or position to start at? Who are some of the people that one would need to talk to? How can a person get in on all of the anime action, and get paid for it? If you have any thoughts or ideas, please reply!
Thanks!

The websites for these companies may have a section for career openings. Try that. But usually, I don't see a very rate of staff turnover at these companies. If I'm correct, their staff are just as zealous, if not more so, as we are about anime and they usually stick with the job for a LONG time. So unless the company is expanding and lookign for new blood, they don't usually have many career openings.

Well, one of the things you can do is get a college degree first. It's not required, since there are industry people that got in without degrees, but it sure is recommended. Also, try to get a few internships with companies that do what you want to do (i.e. graphic design, advertising, etc). A lot of fans want to work in the anime industry, but what will separate you apart from the others will be a solid resume and good work experience.
Also, like Ken said, sometimes they post their job openings, so look at those some time down the road and see what kind of requirements they have. All the best luck to you!

The college degree is good. In the U.S. side. THe one thing all these company's need's are audio mixers. This is the one thing the dubbing studio's need. There are very few even in Japan. I watched Inu-Yasha a big franchise. They only have three.
