Its nice that there is now a "Netflix of Anime", so to speak.
I noticed that the site is really slow - perhaps their server is under heavy load. Also, I must mention that their selection is a little thin compared to what they boast. I hope for their sake that they get a bigger inventory. |

I've been using Greencine for over a year now. They have the best anime selection I've seen. They also have other types of movies as well. Specializing in cult classic and other hard to find genres.

Only problem with GC is the turnaround time can be slow if you live anywhere but the West coast. |

Green Cine has 2119 Anime DVDs for rent (number of titles, not copies), pretty good.
I believe that RentAnime.com has somewhere around 1400~1500 DVDs. But many of RentAnime.com's "new titles" are actually quite old, which leads me to suggest that they are currently growing their collection with older titles that are missing, given that they are dedicated to anime, I wouldn't be surprised if they caught up to and surpassed Green Cine pretty soon. RentAnime is $19.95 a month, free shipping, up to 3 DVDs at a time. GreenCine is also $19.95 a month, up to 3 DVDs at a time, they pay the postage. Essentially the two services are identical, and for the time being at least, Green Cine does have the larger catalog. |

Well, I believe that RentAnime is on the east coast, operating out of florida. So it will probably be similarly faster for people on the east coast. For some anime fans the better decision right now might simply rest with where you live. East Coast = Rent Anime, West Coast = Green Cine. |

I'm decently satisfied with Greencine but they're really slow on items that are not instantly available. I like that they use a cardboard protector like Gamefly pioneered to protect the DVD, so less cracked DVDs like I've gotten from Netflix on occasion. RentAnime.com sounds promising. I think I'd have to hold off and see how they develop. But with AnimeNation connected to them looks like they'll grow well. Greencine just blows my mind right now with their stock, but being west coastal, I figure I'll stick with them till RentAnime grows. Does RentAnime offer more than 3 disks to rent a month out? And do they pay for shipping? I can't access the site right now...it times out for me.

I've been a member of NetFlix for over two years and I haven't had any problems with them, other than the fact that they need more anime. Of course, their rates have gone up a bit ($14.99/month for two titles at a time). Perhaps I'll cancel my NetFlix account and give RentAnime.com a try sometime next month.

From someone who's been a memeber for a week (thanks for that early link, ANN folks):
I'm in Texas and got my DVDs in four days. Rent Anime pays for postage, too. Rent Anime doesn't use card board shippers, they're paper. Improvements they're working on from an email I received:
Once I'm back in Austin with its Neko Neko Anime, that 10 dollar membership will be nice. So far, I'm a satisfied customer. |

GC started using cardboard protectors? It's been a few months since I last had an active GC account, but back then it was paper sleeves, with a few coming in a foam sleeve. |

I use NetFlix and they have newer anime titles, but not ones from 1993-2000. There are exceptions but, they don't have stuff like X, FLCL, or Excel Saga. I might give Rent Anime a try but I also use netflix for live action films.

Hey all, Gene from AN/ANE/RentAnime...
To address some things, I'd like to start by saying it's a new service, try to be a little patient. Obviously no one is going to pay for lousy service and stock, but starting out, we're adding inventory as quickly as possible. The farther into it we get, the faster and in more quantity inventory will be added. On the title claim (that's coming back to bite us in the ass  ), we're still adding. We're still adding box-set only titles, pre-orders ,and a few others. Also, some just-released titles and titles that missed out launch cutoff aren't there.
So far, we're seeing ship times of 4-5 days to west coast customers (there's a poll on this in our forums), so I guess it's up to the individual member on whether that time frame is worth it. One benefit we don't push much yet is that most titles are available for purchase at 50% off SRP. It's a 'keep it and we send you the case' thing once you have a disc in your possession. We're working on other improvements as well. Load times, multiple plans, shipping titles in sequence, and more. We're a week into the launch, so feel free to make suggestions or criticisms.
