Young girls in their underwear on Toonami!
See, I told you that would sound strange, but on SEED they actually left in a scene with a couple of the girls changing and showering. I guess we're finally getting a glimps of the new Toonami because that sure as hell wouldn't have floated on the old Toonami. If there was a "thums-up" emoticon here I'd be using it right now. I beleieve this should go under a non-edit rule. That is don't discuss it, just enjoy it.

Now that I think about it, maybe that's right.
Still a nice sign though. Emerje |

This whole episode is one giant turning point in the quality of SEED's dub and Toonami run, as far as I'm concerned. There are several reasons why, but because I don't want them cut in the encore, I'll refrain.
If only they could pronounce "Lacus" worth a damn (closer to "Lux," not "LACK-ISS"), and not dub the songs, it'd be about golden right now. |

It was announced that the new toonami would be for teenagers. Cartoon network has been trying to broaden the audience since they started Adult Swim which is good. This network started out as a kids only network. Now, it isn't only for kids.

That's not the point, we already understand that. The thing is, this is the first time they've actually shown an episode that fits the new demographic. Before now they have been showing episodes still in the weekday format, probably because Cartoon Network didn't give the companies enough time to get their shows back into order. Emerje |

It is good that their are finally easing up on the censoring and hopefully they will stop editing the anime altogether.

For them to stop editing toonami entirely, they'll have to start with adult swim. It has the fewest edits but I can't really see it being completely unedited because of the Janet Jackson thing.

Well, I don't get off to animated chicks in their underwear... but yeah, it was good to see some uncut SEED.
Now, my huge gripe: Lacus' voice. It is soooo outrageously high-pitched it makes my ears hurt. Especially when combined with Fllay's voice. Ugh. Also, Lacus' voice sounds way too young for the age she's supposed to be (she's 16, right?). And when she sings, its a DIFFERENT VOICE!! It sounds much older, like an adult's voice. It's messed up. Bandai's casting directors are incompetent when it comes to cute anime chicks! |

Even though I do not think that Lacus' voice is the best decision, I still think that this dub is actually pretty good. I really like Athrun's voice, and Mwu lu flaga's is also good IMO. Although I do not really like Kira's voice at the moment, I'm not really judging it yet. I will when all the really emotional stuff happens. spoiler[When he shows up for the first time in his new suit in Alaska, there had better be a change in his entire demeanor]. Besides even if I do not like the dub later, I can always switch over to the subtitled version on the dvd's, and hear it the way it was originally intended to be heard. For the most part I think Bandai has done a good job so far. ~LoneWolf |

Agreed. Personally, I'd say Raww le Kleuze's voice has to be the best one so far, with Mwu's right on his tail. Athrun's I was very iffy on at first (sounded too whiny for the first few episodes), but the actor's really come a long way. So has Kira's. Murrue & Natarle are generally very good, same with the other three ZAFT pilots (when the script doesn't give them badly-written or rushed lines, that is...I'll never forget Yzak's "You'renotfightingAthrunwhynot!?" from a previous episode). The only ones that are still genuinely bad would have to be Lacus' of course, and the chief mechanic on the Archangel, Murdoch. The voice sounds good, but the delivery is bad. Sounds like the dialogue from one of Sci-Fi Channel's low-low-LOW budget movies. Personally, I'm dying to hear what spoiler[Andy's] dub voice is going to sound like. Hoping one of my favourite supporting characters from the series comes off as well as the rest of the cast. Also waiting to hear more of Cagalli, since so far all she's gotten are about four lines of dialogue total. |

Flay's bra was digitally enlarged to cover her up more, though.

Welll... yeah. I mean... she has rather large breasts and they are still a little paranoid. It will be a while before they accept cleavage. But this IS a turning point. And you all forgot to mention another one. In lastnights Rave Master, they allowed an underage girl in a skimpy outfight to fire two hand guns. Normally her little tank top would be edited to hell, and they would most likely mute the gun noise and erase em (I know it would look real stupid then... but hell this is cartoon network we are talking about!)

I thought the underdrawers were actually superimposed (a la Tenchi) because they were too darn bright. I am not at all surprised that they left that scene with the panties in. After all, spoiler[the whole episode was supposed to show Flay's naive rapture to see her father literally go up in smoke and flames in typical Rescue-Plot fashion]. I was actually waiting to see signs of an edit from the shower.
Anyway, for those of you that are surprised, remember that Gundam SEED is the lead-in to Adult Swim, and the two shows before SEED (YYH and DBGT) have been throwing around the k-word like it's a baseball. What bothers me, like it does for most anime nowadays, there's too much recycling of seyiuus. While I'm sure that can't be helped, hearing Mark Hall or Brad Swaile on every other Cartoon Network-shown anime is starting to become a bother. (Despite that, they don't hold a candle to the nuisance that Dan Green and Eric Stuart are.) |
