I'm starting to believe that Gainax makes the best, with CLAMP in second...But they are extremely close. *Note: I know that CLAMP doesn't actually make the anime, but close enough..

My favorite is Card Captor Sakura. I love that anime!

For me, story, character, voice acting, and music make the best anime.

My favorite? Rurouni Kenshin, episodes 1-62, OAV #1, and the movie (all in Japanese, of course.)

Animation isn't very important. As long as the story is easy to follow and the dialogue and music are well directed, I feel I can watch anything no matter how old it looks.

I want to watch Lupin III, SDF Macross, Kimagure Orange Road, Maison Ikkoku, and Mobile Suit Gundam Zeta sometime...

What makes the best anime for me?

Not in any order:
-Music
-Character development
-Plot/Story
-Overarching themes
-Art
-Acting

My favorite is Great Teacher Onizuka. Hence the reason why part of my name is Onizuka.

The most important thing is a good plot, good characters with of a bit of unpredictablity. The world should have well thought out rules and then obey it's those rules. High quality animation and music are big seconds as far as "quality" goes.

My favorites are shows like Escaflowne, X TV, GTO, Haibane Renmei.

Of the shows I am currently watching, Kino's Journey and Last Exile are the most likely to join that list.

All the best,

Nani?

For me it goes like this:
Music
Character Development
The "Feel" to the show
If it's rewatchable

Some of my favorites are Hellsing, Last Exile, 12 Kingdoms, and Magical Shopping Arcade Abenoboshi.

Hey Nani, I posted a topic about Kino's journey earlier this week, so I was wondering if you could PM me about your thoughts on the series. I've been thinking about picking it up, but I want opinions. Thanks Wink

Well I like all of clamps work, and madhouse does awsome animation. They did cardcaptors sakura, and X tv i beleive. Beautiful animation in both of them though. My personal fave is the Tenchi OVA's. But I also liked GTO (wasn't ground breaking animation, but a power anime non-the-less), and probably nadesico for its humor. Tenchi I guess though is still my fave.

Im mostly a fan of the newer stuff, so i think animation is an important factor, the most important factor is the characters, Por example' Noir has boring characters (See what i did there Laughing ), whilst something like Rurouni kenshin has interesting characters with good personalities.

My faviroute anime? Cowboy Bebop....

I think Gonzo and Sunrise make the best anime, or at least the ones i like the most, (eg, Gonzo - Hellsing, Full metal panic and Last Exile, Sunrise - Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw star, Inu-yasha)

What makes the best anime? I honestly don't know. I can tell usually when an anime is good because it just clicks.

Like Cowboy Bebop, Wolf's Rain, and Cowboy Bebop I could tell after 2 episodes of each, these are all excellent anime.

My favorite anime is Rurouni Kenshin. Wink

It's a seamless meshing of:

Concept
Plot
Dialogue
Characters
Characterization
Music
Artwork
Visuals
Atmosphere

When all these things lock in, you get solid gold.

Story, characters and theme (and especially theme) I think constitute a good anime from a bad one. I think everything else (music, animation, etc.) should revolve around these three characteristics (espeically theme).

Those moments that give you chills all down your spine are the most important part of anime. A good anime also showcases things that could never be done without a huge budget in live-action cinema, but really it's all about the chills in the spine. I'd have to agree with UberTai saying that Gainax makes the best anime.
