I've been waiting for them to do something like this. With the hundred years timeline there is plenty of space for darker OVAs and movies. I wonder if they will change up the style of the character designs as well.

Hopefully it won't be as tedious as the main work.
It can be such a drag.

Don't waste any more time on Age. Get busy on The Origin.

I've been purposely staying away from Age specifically because it was geared more for children. A project that's "thoroughly dark" and intended for adults I'd have much more interest in.

Dark? I guess that means gore and sex. Other than that, I hope it is an anime, but I wouldn't get my hopes up as it seems there are plenty Gundam anime projects going on already.

This should be good news for those who fear that "Mobile Suit Gundam AGE" may cause the entire "Gundam" franchise to jump the shark in terms of quality and freshness.
Though I haven't seen much of "Mobile Suit Gundam AGE", here's hoping this side project to target grown ups will save the "Gundam" franchise from facing a future major lost of support from grown-up anime fans (both in Japan and outside of it), especially when "Mobile Suit Gundam AGE" may have already so far tempted some adult-aged fans to abandon all interest in "Gundam" because they felt the show ruined the whole thing forever, even though no one is ever going to force anyone to watch and enjoy "Mobile Suit Gundam AGE" as opposed to anime of several other "Gundam" continuities.
I don't know who will do the character designs for this new work, but I can see someone like Yoshikazu Yasuhiko or Hisahi Hirai working on this.

It's kinda sad imo that they would need to make a side project in order to appeal to grownups though....

Shows geared for children can be quite watchable, or even very good; just look at Beast Player Erin.
No, the problem with Gundam AGE is not that it is a kiddy show, but that it's a badly-written kiddy show.

Probably still starring teenagers though!
(For grown-up fans doesn't necessarily mean they wanna watch adults. Actually, this is one section of anime that's relatively lacking compared to manga and other forms of entertainment.)

Don't the doujinshi artists already do this?
