Ok folks. I guess it's time to announce it.

I'm going to be away from this forum from June 9th through July 25th. I will be studying in Japan, with only limited internet access. As such, I will largely be away from ANN during this time.

I cannot guarantee that I will receive any e-mail, private messages or forum posts during this time. If you need to reach me... well, you're just going to have to do it before June 8th, or else wait until I return, shortly before Otakon.

I don't expect that we'll need any significant changes to moderation. If the need arises for a new moderator, one will be selected internally from current ANN staff before looking externally.

I think that pretty much covers everything I have to say on the matter. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to post. I won't be leaving for another 4 days though, so don't treat me as if I've already left. :p

I hope the chaos doesn't erupt. It would be a shame to see the forums devolve. Sad

Hopefully the current moderators will be enough. If not, I'm sure there are a few of us who would be willing to volunteer. (however painful it may be) Smile

I'm not to say though and many of the long time people who have been around would be better to select from.

Cool. Have fun.

Get me some ramen, Rurouni Kenshin cosplay items, the R2 box set for Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, and some AV DVDs for my friend. Embarassed

But seriously, I see this as a once in a lifetime opportunity. I wish you a happy, safe, prosperous, enlightening, bloodless, gluttonous, and eventful stay.

Enjoy it for all of us! Very Happy

Best regards,

--Tony

Lemme think about it for a second: No.

It's not a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. If I hadn't been accepted for a summer session, I could've applied directly to a university over there. It's hardly impossible, even for one with a questionable academic standing.

And, I certainly hope I'm not over there for any gluttonous reasons. My motivation is academic, which is unfortunate, because the program I was accepted to is highly UNacademic (a course in Japanese pop culture, and anime? Japanese, but only taught at a 2nd year level? I'm well above those sorts of classes.)

However, not all is lost; I still have a homestay family that I can talk to, and hopefully learn from. I have an e-mail partner that will hopefully be able to provide some interaction. I'm kinda looking for a Go player over there, so that I can actually get some experience with playing on a real board (since few people around here want to play), even though I'm not very good.

If there's anime or manga that I want, I can import via amazon.co.jp once I get home. Unless I find 500 yen LDs over there, I'm probably not going to buy any anime or games. They're just wastes of cash that could be better spent on things like FOOD and TRANSPORTATION.

Eh, if your gonna hit anything, I'd hit the comic market and get the limited run fan stuff. That's about the only thing not easily imported. As for go, I'd personally look for a good goban and set of stones. I haven't seen a true one in this country except for at a con. I do most of my playing on the net, when I have time. Hikaru no Go sucked me in. Sad that it took a go manga/anime to get me into it.

Jee, sorry. I was just trying to see you off in a fun manner and hoping that you actually had some time to take in the atmosphere rather than studying 24/7.

All that stuff I said was just supposed to be a joke. Crying or Very sad

Well, study hard then...

Yeah, somehow it's going to be different here going nearly two months without, "This isn't anime, anime news, or Anime News Network related so I'm locking it."

Have fun just the same, Cookie. Sounds like you're going to have a lot of spare time over there so atleast try to get out and explore your suroundings, just avoid the gashapon and pachinko machines.
