Just wanted to know what old anime some people want remade. My pick would be Now and Then, Here and There. The story was great to me, and it made me think. The horrors of war not only effect soldiers, but even the people caught in it. From death to sexual abuse, no one is safe.
I want more people to watch this, even if they aren't anime fans just to see this stuff. But, I don't expect to many people to go and track down the DVDs or VHSs, so that is why I think a remake would be nice. |

Now and Then, Here and There was released ten years ago. It's hardly what I would call an "old" anime, nor do I find yours a particularly compelling argument for remaking an already perfect program.
What we can use is a reboot of the Lupin III franchise, with a new television series. One with a tad more consistancy. Lupin television shows always start off very weak because it never establishes the characters all that well. |

If the only point of remaking a series is because the old DVDs and VHS are tough to find, wouldn't a re-release be vastly simpler?
I can't really see the need for remakes in most cases. Unlike say, video games or movies, animated features have actually remained relatively the same. Sure, nowadays older anime may look pretty outdated, but not usually to the point where it renders it really hard to watch and still enjoy. The only real cause to remake something is if they greatly screwed up the original adaptation. |

Personally, I'm hoping for a remake of the old 1980-81 Mecha series Space Warrior Baldios.
The series has a number of interesting concepts in it and one of the darkest endings of any mecha series (From what I hear, it trumps Ideon in terms of DESPAIR). However, due to it's age, a license or fansubs of the full series seem unlikely. With its recent inclusion in Super Robot Wars Z however, there may be hope, if it can gain a resurgance in popularity like many other shows featured in SRW have, of some sort of remake being produced. |

There's a movie called Spriggan which is fairly well known I think. To me it seemed like a failed pilot for a TV series. I personally really enjoyed the film and the characters and would really love to have seen a series spawn from that.

Anime being remade into live-action is an interesting angle, but remaking old anime? Eh. What's good is good, I guess.
I wouldn't mind seeing more, new-and-shinier versions of Lupin the 3rd or Irresponsible Captain Tylor. Those were hard to get enough of, and improved animation and new situations would be even more smexy. |

In general I'm against remakes in most cases but I'd like to see Blue Sonnet remade. I really like the anime, but like a lot of late 80s/early 90s OVAs they just left things hanging and the manga (which I haven't been able to read or find anywhere) is 19 volumes so they probably didn't cover a great deal of the story. Maybe if it were a longer series, like 13-26 episodes they could cover things a little better and give more closure; the ending wasn't the worst I've ever seen, but I'd still really like to know where things went after the anime left off.
Maybe a remake of the Berserk anime (even though its not that old  ), but with better animation and without anything being toned down, and also doing some of the later arcs as well. Would probably have to be an OVA though, like what they're doing with Hellsing, so would probably take like 20 years to finish given how much material there is.

I'd actually like a remake of Tekkaman Blade. The story feels so retro, but I think it would still translate very well in today's anime scene. All it really needs is improved production values. Produce it in HD with 5.1 surround sound, animated by Madhouse or Production I.G., keep Wada Kaoru for the music, and recast the same seiyuu (but with Narita Ken to fill in for the late Suzuoki Hirotaka).
Story-wise, I'd probably make it more violent and a lot darker, maybe showing grunt soldiers or one important sub-character getting torn up by the Radam or killed by one of the bad-guy Tekkamen to add shock value and drama to the story. I'd also put a lot more emphasis on the romance between D-boy and Aki as well as upping the action quality during Tekkaman battles or space raids against the Radam, maybe even make one battle into a psychological one just to build on D-boy's character. Oh, and speaking of D. I'd love for their to be a remake and continuation of the Vampire Hunter D franchise. The first OVA was one of the first anime I ever saw. But after reading the actual novel, it's not all that great. They cut a whole lot of the story out and really messed around with the character designs. Now Bloodlust on the other hand was pretty good. Haven't read the novel, but production-wise, there's really nothing else you could ask for. Madhouse did a stupendous job in the art and animation. The only real goof was the fact that Urban Vision never released it here in Japanese. But if they could make a series of OVAs or movies to animate the entire franchise, we'd have ourselves some real epic, sci-fi, post-apocalyptic, vampire fiction. One can only hope. |

After seeing the Rebuild of Evangelion 1.0 movie, I'm liking how that's going so I'm looking forward to the next 3 parts. I'm generally not a fan of remakes, though.
It would be cool if Plastic Little got turned into a series or something, that 50-minute OVA is great haha. |

I don't see the need to remake old shows, they are special in their way. Also, if they would remake some old shows they would destroy the initial feeling and transform them into just another modern day anime.
In the old times we hadn't this politically correct plots and people when they were doing things couldn't care the less what others may think, they just would go and do the work, some times the show was discontinued near the end but most of the cases, not. It seems that nowadays everything is made purposely to make some merchandise on one way or another, or cosplay because of their characters with really weird outfits, perhaps in the past it was also a similar case, but not even close. Just compare shows like original Gundam and Gundam Z to Gundam Seed And Seed Destiny to see my point. They aren't official remakes, but those of us that knows about Gundam can see the differences and similarities. Other example of remakes would be , Cutey Honey, Hokuto No Ken... |

I'd like to see a Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou remake. It's not that old, but it only had 2 episodes, so it only showed a few parts of the manga. It also didn't show the other characters, or all the places that Alpha went to. |

Rurouni Kenshin was the victim of filler episodes which led to the show's cancellation later on due to its waning popularity from said fillers. Considering how some fans may still be giddy to see the Jinchuu arc from the manga animated and hate the Reflections OAV enough, I would like to see the series have a remake. With the manga complete, there would be no reason for the series to shift to filler episodes and it's even possible for the series to closely follow the manga's events more accurately. Or if you want to go the realism approach like the OAVs did, I wouldn't mind seeing the Jinchuu arc animated as an OAV either.

How about Rose of Versailles? That's great fertile ground for a modern remake! Good story, interesting conflict for the main character, and impressive for the late 70s, if not a little dated in narrative style.
Oh, wait, never mind, there was a remake...called Revolutionary Girl Utena.  (I am kidding, yeah.)

I would like to see a remake of Rose of Versailles. I think it would be interesting if they focused on Marie Antoinette a bit more. I mean the period after the revolution began.

I'd love to see the original series of Saint Seiya get a remake so that it matches the animation quality of the recent OAV's. Having the entire story available, and with modern production values, would make it a much easier sell in the west.
