This just cracks me up so much that I felt the need to share it with more people.

That's hilarious... now if he added about two or three zeros to that offer, he might have something.

Maybe he snapped up animenewsnetwork.net or animenewsnetwork.tv or something like that, and is trying to get the coveted .com version.

I can buy you a soda.
Although, my sister once had this one HUGE fansite on this one boy band which was really popular (more so than the offical site). It was huge, and she spent hours on end on it. However, the whole "hidden" purpose behind the site was to make money off of it. She ended up making like... $1000 ish off the first year, then sold it to 3 girls for $600. The funny thing is, even after that, she still continued to work on it with them, and got all the advertising money as well. And she did the whole thing somehow with out using a pay server (til the later days). I guess that was in the days where server space was cheap and close to unlimited. =P |

Free servers can't give you enough bandwidth, and litter your website with popups. It's annoying. Paying is worth it. |

Depends on the site. I know of one free site that doesn't have popups and it has unlimited bandwidth. The problem comes that it runs veryvery slowly. (I'm using the site for my high school alumni webpage at the moment.) |

Or something. That was a very rough estimate I gave at AX2003 about the total cost to run ANN. It included everything, not just the servers. The amount is very much out of date, but I did recently calculate the cost of operating ANN's servers, including amortizied cost of the purchases, and it wasn't quite $1000 a month. This time however I wasn't including any costs except the servers. |
