Seems to me the major complaint about yaoi isn't so much the material as fan behavior.

Yeah, that seems to be the gist of it. That's certainly where my problem with it lies.
On another note, another week with no answers from the Answerman? I know Zac is a busy guy and all, but I really look forward to these, so when it's just Answerfans or a week where he starts off by saying that he was going to do something big but didn't get around to it, it is pretty disappointing. Oh well, here's hoping that next week will be better.

I was gonna say that, too.
I read yaoi/BL/shonen-ai, but I hate when they're badly drawn. Alot of yaoi artists can draw pretty faces, but suck at poses and backgrounds and proportions. I've read a BL comic or two that was great except for the characters all having hideously oversized hands. Sometimes the characters' bodies look really unnatural, an imitation of what the human body's supposed to look like.
I kinda hope yaoi doesn't get too popular, cause then they'll license a buncha crap titles. I also don't see the harm in pairing up characters who don't get together or act gay in their official show/manga. It's fantasy, it's fun, just don't go nuts and insist that "" and "" BELONG TOGETHER FOREVER AND EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cons should just classify those yaoi (and other varieties of) paddles as weapons and ban them, just like they would with any other large objects that could bludgeon someone into unconsciousness.

It's not just you. But maybe it's just you and me.

Exactly. House is one of the few reasons why I still watch TV. Well, House and that show on Animal Planet about how people rescue puppies and catch alligators.

A majority of people that I know don't like yaoi, and for good reasons. Why would they want to read about men getting it on, even if it's a casual relationship versus the hot girls that they get to drool over. I do agree though that it's more of the fanbase that bothers me, with their over the top behavior.

Thanks Rebecca and Cait. I love BL and you've said what I would have.
I'm glad to see that most anime fans who have spoken up here are tolerant of BL itself, while being intolerant of some BL fans' rude behavior. That is as it should be.

As someone who's never been to a con and probably never will, dare I ask the specifics of this "yaoi paddle," besides the obvious?

To the new Hey, Answerfans question: I believe the average Anime is no more - and no less - worse than the average American show or movie. As someone who has suffered through plenty of reality T.V. shows, I can't see Anime being (in general) worse than any other forms of entertainment.

I remember when I first saw how the paddle was used, the guy trying to market it was offering to spank his co-worker with it if the girls who were interested in his marketing tactics would buy the paddle. So, he did, REALLY hard and they bought it. Gives me the shakes.

It was already asked. But I didn't answer it the first time around, so here's my answer, just in time for round two:
Hmm....this is a pretty tough one. Overall, anime and American TV shows/movies are about the same. They both have their gems, average shows, stinkers, and plain shit. Neither one is superior to the other; however, your mileage may vary. Personally, I watch way more anime than American TV--all I ever watch now outside of anime is Seinfeld, Mind of Mencia, Penn and Teller: Bullshit!, the History Channel, Venture Bros., Metalocalypse, King of the Hill, the National Geographic Channel, and The Simpsons. Even then, I only watch any of those about once a week, compared to 7-15 different animes a DAY. But yeah, they both have their good and bad stuff.

So when do we get the Answerfans question. "Of religion, politics, and money, which 'coventional' topic do you think will produce less flamebait than all other topics covered by Answerfans?"
Although I suppose sticking to the weather and our health just wouldn't be as interesting.
