Hellboy's a MadHouse anime, not one of those sissy CGI POS like Gonzo.

HEY! Think what you like, but I really happen to like Gonzo. =/
They are far from sissy. Their work isn't exactly always that of the bright and happy side you know.
And with something like this, the pressure is on. The audience is much wider now, so Gonzo would most likely shape up for something like this ^^;.
Good grief. Call me lame, but I think I'm gonna look into the movie and comic series now. I don't know why. It just got to me =P.

I don't know why you are talking down about Gonzo, but I'm sure they will do excellent work. I've found their works with CGI in the past to be increasingly better. In fact, I'd go as far to say that they have raised the bar on quality animation. All one has to do is look at Last Exile, and anybody with an objective eye can see that.
Whether or not you like the stories being told is one thing, but you should be able to recognize their work and the professionalism that goes into it.

I personally wouldn't go that far, my friend. Sure, LE was at times impressive, but to say that is a bit of an overstatement. LE was heavy on CGI, with is cheaper to produce than tradition. Had it looked like that and been all by hand, then sure, maybe. Personally, given my background and experience with their work, I'd rather see another company get Hellboy. I've only liked a handfull of what Gonzo's made, and while their stories are alright, their flashy CG never impresses me(including LE). But that's me. Maybe if Blue Sub 6 hadn't been the first show by them I saw, I'd like them better. I have found that I like their adaptions better than their original stuff. But they still have a long way to go IMO. For me, it all centers on how they handle Samurai 7, as I greatly enjoyed the original. At least their maybe 4 for 8 lately, but I'mstill not fond of their most popular works. I also know that its mostly the hype that killed LE and their company for me. But when you're not big on their trump card, what does one expect. I'm not a fan of the Hellboy comic BTW, but the movie was passible, if a bit dis-jointed.

Hmm... what I meant is that they've pushed the envelope on CGI work, more than animation itself. As far as hype goes, I tend to ignore it because I dislike being told what I should think. I dislike hype, but I refuse to keep myself from watching something I may enjoy either because then I'm still letting others decide for me again
I still haven't seen Blue Sub 6 to this day, so it may be partially be that due to our experiences, our perspectives are different.

You mean it should be done by Madhouse?
Or do you mean that the quote is incorrect and Madhouse is doing it?

Definitely the former, though I wish for the latter. Not to say that Gonzo isn't talented, but they tend to delve for pedantic fanboy fodder far more often than most of the other big-league studios out there.

I can buy that, though through what little I've seen, I don't think they put the CG to use, instead mostly it appears to be there for looks. Maybe I missed all the "impressive" CG work. As for the hype, I agree with you wholeheartedly, but you can't pick up a DVD or a review without hearing how great it is or how it looks "better than anything", it gets on ones nerves after awhile. I'm also a Gemini, so I tend to listen to others opinions, I may not take them, but I'll hear them. I've taped it off TechTV(one of the main hypemakers, but eh) and plan on giving it another chance later. But I'm always more impressed but hand work than a 3D model. When it hits the used or clearence racks, I'll get it. I plan to collect as much anime as I can, anyway. I've got to stop reading reviews. Anyone know how to tastefully remove critic reviews from the back of a DVD case?

Only if you scan it do some photoshop work and reprint it.
There is one other factor I've failed to mention that may make a big difference as well. Lately I've gotten to enjoy a lot more anime projected onto a screen, (84" X 84") and viewing things that way can make a really big difference in your viewing pleasure. Not that I watch all of my anime that way, but everything I've watched there has been like watching things again for the first time.

So long as Gonzo doesn't write the bloody thing I'll be happy with it. They've got a great visual team, no doubt, but their writing staff couldn't find their -buttocks- with both hands.

I wouldn't go that far Crayest... although some of the earlier work they've done hasn't been all that great, I've probably enjoyed Vandread and Last Exile the most of everything they've worked on. I love the script work in LE more so because of the banter between the characters. It's caught me off guard a time or two and I've been pleasantly surprised. But then again, this is all subjective opinion anyway.
Edit: Okay, I gotta admit Bakuretsu Tenshi is kinda crappy in the writing, but they all seem to have their hits and misses. It could be worse. I still think the work they've done (in the writing dept.) has been better than most lately.

Didn't Gonzo do Hellsing? Last I checked that was proof that they could do something dark without completely failing at it. I'm far from thinking that Gonzo is perfect but their animation, and general production values, tend to be terribly high compared to most animation studios.
I love Madhouse, don't get me wrong. I simply feel that Gonzo has shown in the past that they CAN do more than what they ordinarily do. With Del Toro and Mignola having a large amount of impact on the series development, I can only assume Gonzo will do whatever makes those two happy.

Wow. Blue Sub No. 6 must've done some damage, or you're simply tired of hearing Gonzo being given praise, 'cause I can't imagine anyone watching Last Exile and not being able to at the very least admit it's a visually impressive show. Due to the fact that I manage a store that rents anime by the truckload, I get to watch an immense amount of the stuff -- and I can't think of a TV series that looks as well produced.
Is the CG perfect? No. There are moments where it looks amazing and others where they could've touched it up some more. But they're easily ahead of the game in that quarter and it seems to be an aspect of anime creation that all the major studios are attempting to get a handle on. If Gonzo is able to stumble into making that aspect more advanced for everyone else to learn from, then more power to them, I say.
One other thing I'll say regarding them deals with Blue Sub No. 6 directly. That show was produced two years before the film Titan A.E., with a budget about a tenth of the Bluth production. Despite that, the two shows are visually very similar -- down to the use of CGI and creature designs -- and it impresses me that, flawed as it was, an OVA was able to so readily compete in that way.

Surely you jest, three words in regards to Gonzo;
Hellsing,Last Exile and Heat Guy J. Nuff said on that matter.
As for Studio Madhouse, They are currently working on an anime based on the cult classic Sci-fi hit Escape from New York
with John Carpenter and Kurt Russel .
As for Hellboy, the Movie itself couldv'e been better, but hopefully the anime will make up for it's lackluster live-action counterpart.

According the the Encyclopedia, Heat Guy J isn't done by Gonzo.
Unless, of course, the Encyclopedia is wrong. I dont own the DVDs so I can't confirm it for myself.
