i usually don't: i haven't felt this way except for one show: great teacher onizuka. wierd part is, although i liked the series very much, i still don't like it more than cowboy bebop, and i ddin't really feel sad about that series ending for some reason. Dunno, maybe it's because GTO's ending wasn't as conclusive as CB's. So what series were you sad to see end? it can be the first series, the most recent series, etc.

I was quite sad to see cowboy bebop and Haibane Renmei end. I will be really sad to see Kino's journey and LAst Exile end because I REALLY love those series. I do however, want to see the ending of Onegai teacher and Strawberry eggs because those series are quite interesting, at least as far as I've seen them.

Hi, first post here, although I've been into anime for many many years. Close to 20 years already.

Yes, sometimes I feel sad when a really good series ends. Sort of like Cowboy Bebop, where nothing was really conclusive (IMO). What happened to Ed, did she really leave the Bebop? Spike, did he die (obviously not, that's why we have the excellent movie). It's been a few years since I last watched CB and I don't remember much of the details now.

Vision of Escaflowne was the same, both the TV series and the movie. There's this feeling of leaving your friends and knowing you will never see them again (there's no connection between the series and the movie, they don't link). I never got this kind of feeling in real life, with the convenience of modern technology, friends are just a simple phone call away. But watching anime has got me all emotional again.

Maison Ikkoku was funny though, in the way I felt when it ended. I kinda was rooting for the other girl, Godai's junior in uni. But it was not to be. I knew that right from the start, having read the manga, but it still felt funny to see it happen again.

I hardly have time these days to watch a series over again so I've come to terms with those feelings of loss and just get it over with. One day, when I can, I'm going to take out all the video CDs, DVDs that I have and start over again. Watch everything I love and get all soft inside again.

Isn't the movie supposed to fit in between eps 22 and 23?

Ya, it fits in about there. And Bossman, you might want to try using some spoiler tags, in case someone hasn't finished Bebop yet.
They make things spoiler[look like this].

Sorry, forgot about that. CB has been around so many years already I figured maybe most fans would already have seen it. But I really should have known better and included the spoiler tag just in case.

I tried to fit it in between episodes 22 and 23 but it didn't make much sense to me. Now I'm trying to recall the series here becuase it's been a number of years since but it's not easy. Obviously I have some problems with the timeline and as I'm not as fluent in Japanese as I want to be, I missed out on a lot of the details that normally would not be missed on a good quality, accurate dubbed version. The series was subbed in mandarin (which, unfortunately, I'm not too good at either), the movie was subbed in English by obviously non-native English speakers. In both cases, I'm at the losing end 'cos I can't make much sense of it without sittingdown with a good Japanese/english dictionary or a chinese/english dictionary.

Anyway, I'll be replying using this name in future. I didn't really like "Bossman" but I couldn't change my log-in name so I simply created another account. This one is a Japanese translation of my chinese name, and I like it a lot more.

It's not just with animes, it can happen with books, movies etc.
When Slayers TRY ended, I almost couldn't beleive that there's no other episodes Sad

I was also sad when Hellsing, Vampire Miyu, Witch Hunter Robin and Petshop Of Horrors ended Confused

Well, I hate to say this but I've got more anime in my collection than I have the time to watch. Slayers TRY, NEXT, Gundam Wing, Niea Under 7, Kare Kano, Chobits, etc. all sitting around at home and I've not even opened the packages yet!

Serial Experiments Lain gave me goosebumps. I'm trying to look for the DVD so I can read the english sub, the one O have now, well, maybe I'll give it away or sell it on ebay. Boogie Pop Phantom was good for a while until I realized the bootleg version I got stopped at mid season. So I don't have the complete series.

spoiler[
A lot of the sentimental (shoujo, mainly) anime get me all soft and sentimental inside. Sometimes I just can't bear to watch it again because I don't want to go weak at the knees one more time. Macross - Do You Remember Love was nostalgic (the art work sucked, compared to a lot of the newer stuff we have now, and some of it was just ripped off from the TV series) but especially the scene where (after Rick and Lisa got back from their jaunt to earth) and Min Mei walked into Rick's room to see Rick and Lisa together. That was painful.

KOR was quite a heart breaker too, after the Kyosuke decided (finally) that he wanted Madoka. I love her too, but I just hated the way Kyosuke treated Hikaru. Shin KOR (the movie) was not as bad as we now know Hikaru took it pretty well and got on with her life.]

Guys and gals, I'm new to this forum so I don't know how the spoiler tag works. Apparently I got it right, but if someone wants to read what's been written, how?

Indeed. spoiler[Spike DID die, the movie was situated between those eps.]

To answer the topic starter, "sad" is a big word but I do feel a little like that when a good series (Imo there are a lot, for example: Noir) ends, but that lasts only for a few days. The moment when you get hooked to another good anime series you forget about the "sadness" hehe Smile

edit: forgot to add spoiler tag, my bad.

Nice avatar you got there. Kirika Yumura, Noir.

I'm now into episode 17, a few more to go. Then I can start on GITS - Stand Alone Complex. Had a preview already just to check that the discs are o.k. (if not, it's one long trip to town for an exchange) and the quality of the work is superb. Close to the movie itself. But why does Motoko always (almost anyway) go around wearing her underwear? Embarassed

I for one, think that it's great when a series draws it's inevitable conclusion. At least one gets to witness the final fate of his/her's favorite protagonist from the series, wheter it's a good or bad ending.

In comparison to an animated series in America, a show may get cancelled before the next story draft thus leaving the characters, situations in "limbo". And that's kinda tacky.

As much as i will miss my favorite series, they will always have a special place in my heart Crying or Very sad and of course my DVD shelf.

I only felt this way at the end of one series: GTO
Now this was very confusing on my side. I felt... strange... and sad. Because I loved that anime. It was great. I loved the characters and the plot. I remembered all their names, knew their personalities etc. This series reached out to me. I couldnt bear to let go. I wanted more. So at the end I felt... WTF... is it over? I couldnt believe it. I was sad.
But then again, there still is the manga. And I hope I will get it someday Wink

Ya, that got me too, and I didn't even know what Anime was at the time.

I think this will happen to me when I finish watching Inu-Yasha(If YTV will EVER finish showing it Evil or Very Mad ), since I'm pretty much a huge fan right now Anime smile . But usually when an anime has a good ending and no *The End?* kinda thing, I feel pretty good and think: "Well it's over, now I watch the reruns and try to guess what's going to happen."
